Had a great time here today! Best way to spend a 42 degree day! Went to the 10am session on Monday and pretty much had the arena to ourselves. Great service from the staff member who was quick to help us out in any way — and even gave my brother a hat as it was his 21st to celebrate. The food is delicious in the café — staff member whipped up some chips just for us and great coffee to go with it :) had a lovely time and will definitely be back again :) everything was nice and clean and the skates quality was good and comfortable. Not too expensive either :)

Came here a couple of weekends ago with some girlfriends to do some old fashion ice skating on a Friday night. The Venu was clean and fairly new and the price of entry was reasonable at $ 20.00 including ice skate hire. We all had a fun time but I found it pretty much deserted even though it was meant to have a disco that night. I really thought a lot more kids would be present but it was basically all adults. Maybe it was the far away location.

What better way to beat the summer heat/have a near death experience than go ice skating. There are all sorts of offers if you want to learn how to skate or get a group together skating. For general skating and the hire of skates is $ 18(take $ 5 off if you already have your own skates) under fives is $ 10. Tuesday and Friday, and Saturday and Sunday afternoon onwards there is a DJ. To join the Aussie skate program it is $ 165 a term which includes eight half hour lesson and assessment competition. Classes have to have to be a maximum of 8 people. If you want to organise a skating birthday party it is $ 23 for minimum of six people and this includes skates, drinks and lolly bags, some party food and 1 free skate return pass each, you can also hire a coach for $ 40 an hour. The ice skating room is really nice and cold and it is a giant ice hockey oblong shape. There are lockers to store your things as well as a cafeteria room. Inside the middle of the rink there is an ice pit for kids to play which seems a little dangerous as … children fingers, fast passing by possibly learner skaters with razor blade shoes.

I’ve been to the Perth Ice Arena on two occasions the first was during the school holidays — big mistake! I hadn’t ice skated in about five years so naturally I was very rusty and clumsy and it didn’t help that there were at least 40 other people on the ice rink not being very considerate to the slow ones like myself. So if you’re a beginner I would suggest avoiding peek times like summer holidays. The second time I went was during the week once Uni had started again and this time it was a lot more enjoyable as there were only about 10 other people on the rink, and I could go as slowly as I wanted without annoying anyone. Ice skating is always fun and it’s a great thing to do with a group of friends and it costs just about the same as going to the movies plus you’re getting a pretty good work out, so this is a definite must if you looking for something exciting to do this weekend.
