After playing netball for 20 years, I decided that the knees and ankles had had enough and it was time to try something new! I had toyed with the idea of walking into BoxingFit for about 3 – 4 months. In my head, I imagined a bunch of macho men that were just kicking the crap out of each other, which just goes to show how uneducated I was because when I eventually worked up enough courage to step foot in the enormous warehouse-slash-gym, I encountered normal, non-gym type of people. Instant relief! I went to a ‘Technique’ class to start with to learn how to throw a punch or two, and after half an hour of that I was absolutely pooped and muster up any energy to do the ‘Beginners’ class(which is essentially a boxing circuit minus the ab work out). My second visit to BoxingFit was to do this Beginners class — I was going to give it a shot even if it killed me! And it nearly did. It was the most amazing, gruelling, fun workout I’ve ever experienced and once I got the feeling back in my body I instantly wanted more. SIGNMEUPSCOTTY! I signed up to a 6 month membership and also the 12 week weight-loss program, which consists of a weekly weigh in with the nutritionist, Claudia(who is also a PT and one of the loveliest woman I’ve ever met), body measurements every four weeks and a new meal plan with recipes every two weeks. It seems like a simple concept, and it is, but it is insanely effective. I’m 8 weeks into the program and lost 10kg and 20cm+ over my body. The classes are great. 75 classes are spread out throughout the week, ranging from beginners classes to advanced classes, and there are sessions for kids as well! They also have a pilates session once a week which I’ve heard is great! There is a dedicated classroom upstairs fitted out with all types of punching bags, speed balls, weights and spin bikes to cater for all the classes. Prior to starting boxing, I was carrying some pretty chronic back problems, my knees were shocking and my shoulders were seized up. 8 weeks later and I have nearly none of these problems anymore(particular my back problems… so much relief). If getting fit isn’t enough of an excuse to start boxing with BoxingFit, then at least go and have a 7 day trial to see if it helps you with any injuries that you’ve been carrying for some time. I love this place — I’ll be sad if I ever move away from it.
