We decided to eat at this establishment tonight. We ordered Surf and Turf and Lamb Shanks. The Lamb Shanks were cooked to perfection. The Surf and Turf was a different story. The steak was tough, not cooked as requested. The so called seafood was tired. The so called salad, was Ho hum. The other problem was we entered at 6.30pm. Yes the place was busy, but it took one hour for our main courses to appear. It was only after we threatened to leave did our meals appear and that was one hour later. Not happy JAN. We will not be returning here and we will advise our friends not to eat there.

We were touring through northern Tasmania and decided to give the Watermill a try for dinner. The watermill is a historic pub and hotel that has been modernized for comfort while still trying to maintain a historic atmosphere. We ate in the pub, which was well lit, clean, and blessedly free of televisions. My sense of the clientele that night would be: parents of college students. What we did miss was the sense of this being a local pub — it felt a bit too«perfect» — almost corporate, or a bit sterile. But, no points lost for that. Dinner was very good. We started with an order of homemade herbed bread, which was very nice. We also tried a dish with shrimp and another with chicken, which were also good. My order came with a variety of vegetables, which were well prepared. The beer selection was about average for Tassie. The service was also good — we were serviced by several waitstaff so we had all of the attention we needed. The only blight on an otherwise good meal was getting our leftovers for takeaway — we were told we could not keep our leftovers, per some law, and that a restaurant could be liable if we don’t store the leftovers properly and as a result get sick. I’m no expert on Australian law, but that seemed over the top. We’d never had a problem getting leftovers before anywhere else. So, be warned if you like to take your leftovers home.
