a gem in the town! We came across this farmers’ market as we were walking around town on a Saturday morning. Lots of stalls selling fresh produce /hand made snacks/goodies. A great place to do some of your groceries or to have brekkie!

We come here every Saturday morning that we have free. Great atmosphere with buskers and hot food and drinks. Can come here for just a stroll with a coffee and snack or for grocery shopping. Cheap potatoes and apples with great selection of breads, meat, fish, and seasonal vegetables. It is open to the weather so it can be incredibly cold and wet at times.

Only locally produced goods, home grown and/or hand made for consumption are permitted for sale in this Saturday morning market. This means not only are you guaranteed to get fresh produce that won’t go off in the fridge after 2 days, but you’re also supporting local small businesses develop. Heart, soul, skill and class are all evident as the 3-hour market churns at a brisk pace, rain, hail or shine. There’s a covered area in the middle with tables and chairs for eating. There’s an hourly spot for a local busker to perform. There’s an abundance of tastings, from nuts to olive oil, wines, sweets, baked goods, dairy, herbs, pesto, salmon & veggies galore. There’s also a fabulous selection of on site food: vegan, vego and meaty choices. If you have time to take your time, it’s worth it. Start in the middle with a coffee, sip it as you wander around and decide on breakfast. Have your brekkie in the middle to the sounds of the busker(the bagpipe was a bit much first thing, but the guitarist afterward was heaven), then do a couple more laps while you decide what you’re going to make for dinner and buy your bits. Get a pastry on the way out and your day is considered a success.

You have a few options for breakfast in Launceston but if you are here on a Saturday head to this market. You can try the other replaced on other days. There is a evolving range on cuisine here to grab and eat. Turkish, vegan, many more all made with local produce. And if you have already eaten grab some food for the day or week. Fresh vegetables and fruit, cheese and breads, olive oil, herbs, so so many things. Again all local. Of course the fresh stuff can be a tad more expensive than the supermarket but the quality is so much better. Be early as many locals come and grab their weekly supplies here.
