Door of Hope Christian Church is an exciting church making a world of difference.

The heartbeat of the church is simple… It’s all about people, living together, sharing our hopes, dreams and struggles, and being up front about the difference that Jesus Christ has made in our lives.

We are a contemporary and active church, motivated by our faith in God and our conviction that Christianity remains as relevant today as ever and, therefore, we are active in meeting the needs of those in our local community and beyond.

Through our various programs and projects we are able to make a real difference in people’s lives.

We aim each day to be Jesus Centred and Others Focused, and to live out our mission statement, which is «to be a door of hope through Jesus Christ in a fragile and uncertain world».

Above all, and without exception, everyone is welcome here.

History

Established in 1884.

Midway through 1884 an inspired missionary to Tasmania arranged for an advertisement to be placed in the Launceston Examiner seeking Christians interested in forming a church, leading to the formation of the first Church of Christ in the Launceston area.

In 1913 a mission tent erected on the corner of the Kings Way and Brisbane Street saw two hundred & seventy one people commit their lives to Christ. Growing members resulted in the need for a permanent place of worship. The Margaret Street chapel was purchased in 1913 and the members congregated there for over 80 years. Within 12 months of occupying the Margaret Street chapel, wings were added to each side to accommodate the growing attendees. Increasing numbers inevitably led to the need for larger premises.

In 1994 a factory site in Frederick Street was purchased & renovations were undertaken. This sufficed for nine years, but with a growth rate of over 100% in this period, the current site was purchased in 2002.
