My fiancée and I found out about Kuali via the Entertainment Book and decided to give them a try. We were plesently welcomed and shown to our seat. The place is nothing special for the eyes, we did not see any windows but its clean and there are lots of photos of Malaysia on the walls. The place is quaint and relaxed. It is also BYO and the staff were very friendly and attentive, topping our water whenever the glass was near empty. We were advised the signature dish is mud crab, which we decided to go with. We had it with their special curry, as this was kindly recommneded and wow, was it special!!! We kept ordering roti bread(also very tasty) to soak it all up and when the sweet succulent crab(1 between 2 people was plenty for us — you decide on the size) was polished off, we finished the curry with our spoons — it was the most amazing curry I have had in a very long time. Visiting this place is worth it for this dish alone. We have since ordered takeaway and as much as there is nothing wrong with their other dishes, nothing compared to the mud crab, and the curry served with it can only be had with the mud crab.

Go here, eat mud crab in curry sauce, be happy. On first impressions you probably wouldn’t think much of this joint, it is tucked away down a random little arcade in suburban Lane Cove but it is well worth the excursion. The mud crab is delish and out-shines everything else on their menu. When you order they will ask you what size you would like and bring the crab out for your approval before they cook it. You can choose to have your crab cooked in chilli or a curry sauce. I’ve had both and the curry is by far my favourite, its a rich curry with the perfect mixture of sweet and savoury. Make sure you also order some roti bread to soak up the sauce, trust me you won’t want to leave any behind. And bear in mind that eating crab is messy business, and while they do provide you with some very attractive plastic bibs it is probably best not to wear your Sunday best.
