Ooh so the food was delicious. I had such doubt walking into this place and then the food was good. There aren’t actually many restaurants around La Perouse but this establishment being there totally makes up it.

After the morning surf in the area, ventured down to Driftwood by the bay, great spot at La Perouse. Tables out the front are good to take in this view of the beautiful botany bay. Inside is a warm feeling, relaxed atmosphere. The owner was there, a lovely guy who was very friendly and hospitable and we had a good old chat. He’s been running it for a couple of years now. They make a good coffee using all press coffee. A variety of sweet options available such as steaming hot muffins with Nutella on top and inside(see my video on aroundtheclockfoodie on Instagram if you’re keen) and as it was pulled apart, gooey Nutella oozed out in fine form. They also had Nutella iced coffees if you so desired it. There is a wide variety traditional breakfast options; eggs any way, omelettes, big brekkies, smoothies, etc but their specialty is the eggs benedict offering a choice of hollandaise varieties. My husband chose the«green eggs and ham» which was a pesto hollandaise on top of poached eggs cooked well, with the yolk running out. This was very generous with three eggs on three English muffins which is pretty good value for $ 17. I had the pork belly benedict, which was a nice thin slice of pork belly on a slice of grain bread with spinach and picked vegetables to cut through the indulgence of the hollandaise sauce. We’ll have to go back to try the lunch and dinner menu sometime.

Now, i’m not sure if this is factually correct, but I was told that a French navigator by the name of Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse(dang thats a mouthful) landed on the northern shore of Botany Bay, now called La Perouse. After six weeks, this Frenchy man and his crew left the area to search out New Caledonia and lo and behold the English took over. It’s all French? to me Well, this restaurant isn’t French and its not really that British, but a friend in the area took me here because he heard that the breakkie was excellent. Full English maybe? They have a menu item called the«2036 big breakfast with everything» for $ 22. My pal Adam had a hunger so fierce that he didn’t care what«everything» included. I’m really sad I didn’t have my camera, but I can assure you it did, include everything sans the kitchen sink. –Double hashbrowns –½ grilled tomato –home-made baked beans(super delicious!) –Chorizo –Bacon –2 Halloumi chunks — layers of Toast –2 pouched eggs and heaps of avocado. This meal could easily fill two French or Englishmen. Sticking with my recently discovered vegetarian diet I decided that my heart lies with Mexico and so I went forth — Poached eggs w/Mexican coriander and tomato salsa, sliced avocado on toast for $ 14.50. That portion was also substantial. The restaurant itself has a kitschy feel with views of the ocean(and not the industrial side — hooray). They serve breakfast all day and have a number of other tasty treats including burgers, pasta and salad! Lap all that up with a yummy coffee and you’re all set for your hike around Botany Bay Park.
