Fantastic cosy little place. Everything on the menu is made in their tiny kitchen superbly well and with simple, fresh and clean produce. The chicken club sandwich is to die for. The staff are extremely friendly — even making me an extra coffee free of charge after I got held up at the post office! Highly recommended.

Perfect little stop for this weary traveler on my first day in Melbourne. Great service and breakfast. Glad I randomly saw your tables up front to make me stop. Thank you.

My monthly pilgrimage to Kensington has always ended with visits to The Premises, but today, I wanted to try something a little bit different so consulted Unilocal(of course!) for some ideas. Enter Luncheonette, apparently this tiny vintage café is a must visit and serves Coffee Supreme, and whilst not a coffee drinker, it’s a brand that I like. Luncheonette is certainly small, and it doesn’t have high chairs for bubs either. But what they lack in space, they certainly made up for it with friendliness and helpfulness in helping me fit my big pram into their shop! I ordered a weak soy mocha to kick things off, but alas when it arrived I found the coffee a bit too hot, although I couldn’t tell for sure whether the milk was burnt or not. For food, I tried their baked eggs with Istra chorizo. On the menu it said that this would be served with toast, but to my delight it was served withhold toasted baguette with a generous serving of butter which bubs and I both loved. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the chorizo had a slight kick to it. I am really impressed by the care they made their food, although I would probably skip their coffee next time. Luncheonette is certainly a good(& cheaper) alternative to The Premises.

Vintage 50’s style café every peace of future and painting has that vintage feeling. Even the cash register is from the 50’s to cool! It’s Got Cosy space instead and tables on the sidewalk out front. Location right in front of Kensington station and is open early enough for you to get your morning cuppa! As for food I only tried something basic scrambled eggs on that with goats cheese. Now the kitchen is like something I have never seen before they literally have one pan that plugs into the wall that they use and a small space for were they prepare food. Very home cooked meal feel to it! Keen to explore the menu more next time but it’s worth checking out as one of Melbourne’s vintage cafes!

Tucked away on the opposite side of Kensington Station to the main café street, Luncheonette is a little gem. Pull up a seat at one of the 5 small indoor tables; or if the sun is shining, take up my toddler’s preferred position at a table on the footpath where you can watch the passing trains. Due to the small shopfront and tiny kitchen, Luncheonette has a small menu and has concentrated on doing a few things very well. All day breakfast consists of homemade granola with yoghurt and rosewater rhubard, baked eggs, banana bread and toast. Lunch features a small selection of gourmet sandwiches and one or two salads. The specials board usually features something sweet and savoury(waffles and a BLT or sausage roll) and there is a rotating selecting of tasty baked treats. Staff are always very friendly and efficient, there is never a long wait for food, which is amazing when you consider the small kitchen space. This friendly service, combined with the warm cozy atmosphere makes Luncheonette one of my preferred spots for breakfast in Kensington

I used to cross the train-line to go here, but it became too much trouble trying to get a smile out of the staff/owners — & it felt like you were wasting their time. It was difficult getting more than one word answers.

Luncheonette is a small little café tucked away opposite the Kensington train station. When I say small I don’t exaggerate. It has seating for about 12 inside and maybe 6 outside. That’s it. That being said, this really is a little café that could. They serve breakfast and lunch, and despite not having a full kitchen, offer quite a variety of meals. Breakfast consists of a breakfast roll, baked eggs, or French toast. Lunch items are a bit heavier. They have a daily specials board, usually one breakfast and one lunch item. Coffee is by Coffee Supreme, and the baristas do a good job. Luncheonette is my go-to place for coffee right after I wake up(I live in the are). My only gripe is because there is only one door going in, ventilation isn’t the best. Espcially during winter when they have the door closed, it becomes really stuffy inside. Stay for more than 10 minutes and chances are your clothes will smell of brunch. It may be small, but don’t let the size fool you. Come in and have some brunch. Take the path less travelled.
