Tony Ale

Dolce & Salato in Tony Ales. Fabulous deserts, all look delicious. Coffee is average but my giant slice of tiramisu (I’ve already eaten half in the photo) well makes up for it! A great treat.

Huge array of fresh fruit and vegetables. Staff friendly and helpful. Plus… After the gruelling task of food shopping for the week. Why not treat yourself to a delicious cake and coffee! Perfect! Giant selection of patisseries from Dolce and Salato. Sooooo good! I had the baked cheesecake with sultanas. It was very filling but well worth every mouthful.

This is a gem in Jandakot. It’s been here for what seems like forever. It’s always managed to have a good variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. When I was a kid it was an Italian grocer but now it’s an Italian grocer with extras. There have been several times where I have been able to get specific Asian ingredients here easier than Asian grocers.
There is an in house butcher in Fussy Meats on the premises. I’m not saying one butcher with shop assistants. Every one of the people behind the counter knows about meat and can make suggestions on substitutions and cooking ideas. Meat can be cut to specifications and can also be ordered in. If you’re a fan of Fussy Burgers or in want of a tasty butcher made burger pattie. This is where you get them.
The pantry goods are limited in range but it has never failed when I have been chasing for particular ingredients be it staple or specialised.
If you’re after deli meats head to the deli which also doubles as an extremely busy lunch bar that churns out amazing rolls. The deli also boasts large wheels of cheese and has cured meats ready for slicing. There is also a wide selection of cheese at the back of Tony Ale as well.
Towards the end of the day at the checkouts there are discounted fresh goods and staples on offer. These are spruiked and some amazing bargains can be scooped. 15L of Extra Virgin Oil for $ 10 anyone? Okay that was one time but it illustrates the bargains to be had.

This review is strictly for their «award winning pies». I’m a huge sucker for delicious Australian Meat Pies because we don’t have them in America. Since my bf lives in Australia, I’ve had the great pleasure of trying countless gourmet pies in Queensland and WA, and for this trip to Perth, his grandmother who lives nearby, swears by Tony Ale’s meat pies.
They are simply phenomenal here – meaty, chunky, tender, flavorful, and solid (pastry, that is). There is no need for tomato sauce on them. My very favorite was the honey lamb, but the peppered steak, steak and ale, and curry pies were also excellent.
The sausage rolls were massive and good value but only so so. I’ll be back for more honey lamb ones and if they were closer to his home, I’d also shop there for produce. Everything looked delightfully fresh and local.

The deli section is the main reason I come to Tony Ale’s — the cold meats are a much better quality than what you would find at Woolworths or Coles and usually at the same price. They also have such a wider range available, and some of the more traditional cuts that you sometimes can’t find at your local supermarket, and some very well put together salads and appetisers. The deli also custom makes sandwiches for a pretty reasonable price and sells homemade pastas and soups.
In addition to the deli, they sell a lot of good quality fresh produce. It’s quite often cheaper, and always a better quality than the major supermarket chains. They also have a butchers section, and they sell Fussy pies — which are possibly the best pies I’ve ever eaten!
There is also a Dolce and Salato chain in the corner where you can get coffee and a range of Italian biscotti, pastries and pizzas. They aren’t the most amazing pastries I’ve ever had, but they are consistent and tasty. The pizza is usually what I go for.
I like Tony Ale’s for the European imports that aren’t available at standard supermarkets as well.
All in all, a pretty authentic Italian supermarket that offers some great food at good prices. In my experience, the service has always been great as well.

Haven’t been here in years and use to only come with family as a kid — but yesterday I went on in and can firmly say I’ve found a new local for just about anything I need.
Amazing fresh fruit and veg, very generous deli section, butchers and loads of quirky little international and otherwise bits and pieces. Go here if you’re looking to stumble across good value, great food and ingredients, inspiration and variety.
I could have spent much more time than I did there and most certainly will on another occasion — but I can assure you it has the answer to «what’s for dinner tonight?»
A nice touch is a great little French café on the way out. Loads of baked goods and other pastries and sweets. I picked up a couple that were surprisingly close to my time in Paris… Not that anything could reach that!
