Mo-Mo’s

When I was a fashion design student back in 2003, a rockerbilly chick I worked with told me she got all her vintage clothes from ‘Rubbish’ in Inglewood… Living way away in Greenwood, I got the Beaufort St bus down to 8^th ave, and never actually made it to the store my friend liked, because I found Mos, decided I wanted to live in Inglewood, and moved there 4 months later!
While I was devastated to hear that Mo was selling the store a few years ago, I have to say the stock has been more my style since Elizabeth took over.
I’m a size 10 – 14 depending on the garment, and there has never been a shortage of amazing 70s, 80s, and 90s clothes (my style) for me to choose from.
The other thing I liked about when Elizabeth took over, was the previous owner was a little pushy if I wasn’t sure about something, but Elizabeth has never pushed at all, and I made more purchases as a result.
The best vintage stores in the world that I’ve been to, have been in Vancouver Canada, and Sydney… I have to say Mo-​Mos is the one and only place to get vintage in Perth.

I have shopped at Mo-Mo’s a few times before and haven’t really had anything to do with the staff as I was mostly ignored, but today was a different story.
The clothes are lovely, although sometimes I find the use of «vintage» being used far too excessively to excuse stains, rips, deterioration and the likes, especially when they are not pointed out to you and the price is quite expensive. Yes vintage items often have flaws, but they need to be identified and priced accordingly.
There is a sign behind the counter saying something along the lines of ‘vintage clothing is old and will have faults, we will try our best to identify them for you. If you are unhappy with this then please shop at Westfield’. Seriously? How ridiculously snooty and rude! I get this is a niche market but this is elitist and off putting.
I got a full case of this kind of attitude when I was shopping for a dress today. At first the owner was very nice and chatty and helped me try on some dresses, and I found one I liked. One rip was pointed out to me. Upon closer inspection I found 4 other rips in the tulle and the material of the underskirt (still visible) had a large stain with a number of holes (moths!?). I shared these faults with the owner and she did little but huff at me and then walk off. I followed her to the counter and said that I’d like to think about it and I would come back another time. She literally just ignored me and started folding some sweaters. I then thanked her for her help and she rolled her eyes at me!
Needless to say I was pretty offended, and have never been treated so ridiculously while shopping, even in vintage stores. If Elizabeth had have been even the slightest bit understanding and just talked it over with me (seriously, heard of customer service?) I probably would have just bought it! However, her attitude and behaviour was awful and therefore I won’t be going back for the dress, and will NEVER shop there again.
I love vintage clothing and have quite the excessive wardrobe, but going back there isn’t worth it. So many other great places to shop for vintage now in Perth where you won’t be treated so rudely!

Since moving to the area, Mo-Mo’s has quickly become my favourite shopping destination. I find it hard to leave empty handed, and have found some absolutely amazing pieces that offer a striking, unique addition to an outfit.
I love the fun of searching for something amazing, it is what is most fascinating about the store.
Elizabeth and staff are always enormously friendly and helpful with an excellent understanding of fashion and delivering wonderful customer service. Leaving the store, I always feel like a very valued customer, whose purchase, whether it be big or small is made even more exciting by personalized, attentive service.
Great value for money too.

A very big collection of wardrobe selections for women, from contemporary (ie sass and bide, just jeans), to some pretty pastel frocks that looks right out of the ‘Back to the Future’ prom movie set. The men’s collection is tiny in comparison.
Terrible service however. The sales girl on the day did not bother greeting my friends and I went we came through the door and didn’t bother to help at all while we rummaged through the offerings.

I have heard that this place is great to find those amazing vintage pieces and while I was lucky enough to find a unique Escada suit, but the rude sales girl was enough to put me off from ever returning to the store and giving them any of my business.
My friends and I were not acknowledged as we entered into the store as the sales girl was busy chatting about how generic all the girls in Perth look by buying all the same dresses from Myers. She did however decided to speak to us as we tried on the vintage shoes (that had been worn and were extremely scuffed on the sole) and condescendingly told us «that if you girls are going to try on the designer shoes, could you do it on the carpet because I don’t want you to ruin the soles of the shoes.» Although slightly taken aback I continued to browse the store. I later managed to find the Escada suit that I liked, but the price tag was a little expensive so thought I would ask the sales girl if there was a chance that the suit might go on sale in the future. Once again I was rudely told in a condescending manner that because the suit is designer they do not usually discount well known labels and that «Do I even know what Escada is?»
This sales girl’s rude attitude towards customers was enough to make me leave the store immediately and to never want to return. A great vintage find is not worth the terrible experience of a girl who thinks that every customer who walks could possibly not know as much about fashion as she does and makes sure you know it. I feel shopping should be a fun experience and every girl should leave satisfied with a great find.
I also suspect that some of the items in the designated «designer rack» may be fake.

It’s nice for a browse but if you are a bit on the smaller side (size 6,8) — there isn’t too many options. I’m pretty used to this happening in vintage stores, everything looks like a really really large lady wore it.
I wonder if old time people really did happen to be this tall and huge sometimes. Or if they just are more likely to donate their fancy vintage pieces.
If you like 1970’s clothing there is a big selection. I’ve noticed their jackets are really cute too.

Mo-Mo’s has to be one of Perth’s oldest vintage shops. I remember when the options were pretty much Winifred & Bance or Mo-Mo’s. Oh how times have changed, now there’s a sea of vintage clothing stores in Perth.
Momo’s are not so much about vintage as they are about quality pieces of used clothing. A lot of the stock isn’t more than 10 or 20 years old, but it’s in impeccable condition and is usually a semi-​expensive brand, say Cue or Review.
Their jackets and shoes tend to be the highlight for me.

Mo Mo’s is the place for vintage in Perth but beware before you go it is exxy!
