What better way to retreat from the exhausting pace of the information age than with a culinary trip back to the heart of 1950’s diner culture that is Colonnade. The menu includes heartwarming favorites that not only comfort but make this patron yearn for a simpler time. Burgers and curly fries aside, there’s a very legit air of vintage cool about the place. Staff are friendly and attired beautifully down to their bobby socks. Sit in an authentic looking booth with your best girl and slurp on a chocolate malted while you wait for your expertly prepared cheese burger and chilli fries. Tap your toes to buddy, dusty and the king and maybe consider taking on The Good Golly Miss Molly challenge(the secrets of which will be revealed when you get here ;) and get your picture added to the wall of fame. This is the welcome respite that a shopper needs! Colonnade is an oasis of cool that’s not too ‘far out’.

If you want to escape the hustle of busy Westfield shopping centre at Hurstville, head into Colonnade café on level one. It’s definitely a good choice if you want to avoid the overcrowded, noisy atmosphere of the two food courts and have a decent conversation. It was perfect for some breakfast and a catch up session with my best friend and the booths are ten times more comfortable than those food court chairs. I ordered a big breakfast — bacon, egg, grilled tomatoes and toast from memory — the food was decent, filling, and it came out pretty fast as well. The service was polite and efficient but not necessarily friendly, they pretty much left us alone which we were happy with.
