New accommodating ownership! Extensive new eats menu, tasty share plates, Tassie wines, beer, whiskey and gin options(Try the Poltergeist Gin with muddled blueberries!). Fun new cocktails like the«Death by Chocolate» or trendy espresso martini. I recommend the Wallaby Burger if you like a little heat or the Porterhouse with mushroom sauce for something more traditional. Pulled pork tacos with the apple coleslaw are a nice light midday meal. Wash it all down with a Hawker’s IPA or Dogbolter Dark Lager. Live blues on Sunday arvos through February 1−4pm

Called in for coffee and a small bite to eat. Simple. Coffee and tea both luke warm. My wife said that(I don’t drink tea) you add the milk and the tea is still meant to be hot, not warmish. Fail. My coffee temperature was just warm, not hot, nor overly hot. Fail. NO sugar was presented at the time of service and I had to seek it out myself. Fail. Ordered the simple French Toast with fresh berries, cream and honey. I would have suggested true Maple Syrup instead of Honey, but my preference. Some call it eggy bread. French Toast and Berries arrive, no cream or honey. Waited for a while to ask about the«extras» no one came to see if everything was Ok and it was not busy at the time. Went to the counter to verify what I had ordered and we all agreed honey and cream were missing. «We will sent it out immediately as a side» Sure I said. Another 10 mins later nothing. The waitress eventually turned up and said that the French Toast was being remade, which I hadn’t asked for. At this stage we had had enough now hungry and ticked off. They didn’t charge for tea and coffee and we left. Hungry. Fail. We had been there once previously and it was only average then, perhaps 1+ years ago. Never again sorry. FAIL.

Part coffee shop, part bar, part restaurant. This spot is very cool, the coffee is to die for, the food is great(if a bit pricey), and the beer selection is plentiful. A very reliable pit stop, at any hour.

Under new management so menu is a lot more conventional. Hip décor, a chic relaxed feel. Attentive waitstaff and friendly owners, striving to please. Wide range of menu items catering to vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Reasonably prompt service. Food was flavoursome and well presented. The gnocchi to pumpkin ratio was a bit off.

NOTE: This place changed ownership and menu December 2015. While we were surprised to find no crab sliders, I have to say the food and drink was still top notch, despite the totally revamped menu. We arrived in Tassie after 30 hours of travel mid afternoon and after a shower and nap went out to dinner. It was Christmas Eve, so many places were closed, but the prior reviews here made the Pumphouse look like a beacon in the night. There were very few other customers, but I attribute that to the date, not the place. The owner was doing triple duty as host, bartender and waiter. He made some good suggestions and we took him up on the«Salt and Pepper Calamari» which was perfectly done with a bit of salad greens on the side. We also had«grilled sourdough lobster pâté» and again it was nicely done and served in addition to being quite tasty. We’re heading out of town tomorrow; if not we might well go back. So in summary, it is still a great choice, but the prior reviews are now meaningless.

I really like this space… it’s a kind of barn sized coffee shop during the day and then a super ambient awesome food joint during the night! It’s December 2015 now and I just heard a rumor that it’s sold to new owners this week! The staff seem to have completely changed so the rumor seems correct… hope the new owners can run it as well as the old!

The Westend Pumphouse is a cosy pub on Murray St in Hobart. It’s a great place to chill out for a period of time, out of the cold with a cool beverage. It has a great selection of craft beers to keep the beer connoisseur very happy. And for the foodie — the food is fantastic! Not your average pub grub, but a little different and extremely tasty! I highly recommend a visit :-)

Westend Pump House is another in the hipster Hobart trend. It’s a big barn-like warehouse done up in the post industrial style with polished concrete floors, eclectic décor, and a fit-out featuring recycled and found objects. Check out the street art murals by Aedan Howlett.

West Pumphouse used to be a coffee roaster and there are still remnants of the pervious life. Menu is a set $ 55 per head for three courses which represents good value and attracts the foodies. Great place to hang out for drinks and banter and though it is summer they recognise it is cool and buck the rest of the Hobart trend and light a crackling fire. Speed wi fi and some of the friendliest service in Hobart. Check it out.

16−02−13 One rule of Hobart my family and I had to learn the hard way: BOOKWAYINADVANCEFORWEEKENDS. We tried to book for nearly the entire day. NOTHING was available for a table of six! In the end we managed to get an Irish pub in the city. When we turned up, it was a case of taking a look, shuddering and going ‘Great. What now?’ Thankfully, one of us had the temerity to ask the staff there where there was something a bit… Nicer. They recommended the Pumphouse just up the road. We walked up and to our delight, found a really nice, clean hospitable environment with a spacious aesthetic. Sitting next to the window we ordered some drinks. I ordered a mojito(a fond favourite from my time in Northern Italy) and it was quite nice, slightly too sweet for me but from my experiences with mojitos, it was a good one. I just don’t have a sweet tooth so I prefer the more limey ones as opposed to the more sugary ones. Only a minor quibble. We then started ordering our dinner. I decided on the wallaby porterhouse(medium rare) with chimi churri and pangrattato($ 17) and a side smashed potatoes with herb salt.($ 9) It was amazing but the very small serve of wallaby was not great value for $ 17. When you say ‘porterhouse’, you usually think of a nice thick steaky chunk of meat not a half palm slice of meat. The flavours were just right and the aoili-style condiment with the meat went down very nicely with the smashed potatoes which were(I suspect) double fried to perfection. Golden, crunchy exterior with a lovely soft buttery inside. The only reason it didn’t deserve a five star review in my opinion was the meat came alone. If it was a super-posh place that serves each dish alone, well, fine, be all wanky and all that but this was just an upper-class pub. It should have at least come with some kind of salad or string beans or SOMETHING. Or been bigger. 4⁄5.

Warehouse-style bar with good range of premium spirits. Board games and card decks available. Typically not very crowded or noisy making it a good spot if you want room and the ability to talk. However, it is a little out of the way and be aware the licence ends at 12, so late at night you may want to reconsider the hike.
