I love this place. I have been here a number of times as I cannot get enough of the beauty of these gardens. Kids can also have a great time here as there is so much space. Each section has something very special about it. My favourites being the herb garden, the Antartic Division and the roses. A fantastic choice for picnics or even a place to chill out and read a book. The shop also has some nice things for gifts.

I really like Hobart’s botanical gardens — even if they are a bit smaller than those you might find on the big island. A great calming oasis really close to the CBD there is actually a surprising among that goes on here — check the website regularly for the schedule and you will find events such as; Shakespeare in the Gardens, Concerts(like a day on the green), kids days(like the Teddy Bears’ Picnic), special dogs days, horticulture courses, exhibitions and more! The gardens feature a reasonable restaurant with a great outlook over the gardens and is popular as a wedding venue. My picks — lounging on the grassy hills picnicking, the Japanese gardens, the conservatory and the fernery.

These gardens are beautiful and I would be delighted to go again. I saw my first ever blossoming apple here. Has a very english feel but there are many local tasmanian botanics.

The Botanical Gardens are worth a visit if in town for a few days. Tasmania has its own climate and topography, so if you’re really into gardens, it’s a priority. Otherwise, some of the other Botanical Gardens in Australia and more spacious, more varied, and more memorable.
