Hedgend Maze

If you have a family with little kids, this would probably be the ideal place to take them to. Not only do they have three different mazes on site, they also have other activities such as eye-​spy, Frisbee golf, a fossil dig, mini golf, laser tag, a garden, and a BBQ/​picnic area.
But for me, being a 20-​something, I just came here for the main maze. The only other one I had been to was on Mt. Dandenong Sky High, so I know the concept. This one was fun, and tricky. A word to the wise– don’t wear pretty shoes, this maze got muddy! I did get lost a number of times (but hey, that’s the point of a maze!) And confession: I did not find all of the 13 clues that you were supposed to. After a whole day in Healesville, this was our last stop and my brain wasn’t up for the critical brainstorming that was required here. The lady on the way out did say that here they like to make people think and boy did they really exercise my brain!

Yes, a Maze. I would say that it’s the well documented ‘Labyrinth Effect’ whose influence bears so heavily on us children of the early eighties but there’s something about mazes — and especially good, big country mazes — which I personally find completely irresistible.
So when the nice lady at the Healesville Tourism Centre proffered that there was a maze in the area I dropped everything, made my boyfriend drop everything and we excitedly headed to the local maze. Strange, the human condition and making a game out of getting lost and all but let’s not get all psychoanalytical.
For less enthusiastic folk, the Hedgend Maze is not just a maze but also boasts some beautifully manicured gardens, some incredible views, miniature golf, chickens and much much more.
But what of the maze? The maze was good. Pretty, fun and very well kempt. That said, I know the secret of finishing a maze with no muss and no fuss so can’t comment upon the complexity of the maze. The views at the tower at the end are well worth the walk though. Love mazes? You’ll lose yourself at Hedgend.
