Have been meaning to try Hawthorne Pantry for ages and finally got a chance to between checking out open houses. It’s a cosy little café/random stuff store — which is a combination that I love. I love being able to pour through quirky homewares, handmade jewellery and gourmet foods in tiny jars while I wait for my coffee. Café side offers Merlo coffee and a range of bfast & brunch café faves(muffins, sandwiches & wraps etc) and some daily specials. Staff are friendly and waiting times are short. I grabbed a cheese & tomato toasty and coffee which hit the spot. Only had a short time to check it all out but will be back!

Cute homewares store. But unfortunately it stops there. Cakes were dry and made elsewhere, served on the same saucers our coffees were served on.

The Pantry carries several different cards to send for a number of occasions. «Cards for Men» is one category which is perfect for the men in our lives, and was very useful for me to pick from in selecting a Father’s Day card to send to my dad in the USA(their Father’s Day holiday falls in June, instead of September). The Pantry also carries several home décor and nifty gift items. If I had money to burn, the Pantry would be one of those places to do it at. They also have a coffee café inside(with a couple small tables outside), but I can’t vouch for the coffee yet.

I happened past the Pantry on a lunch break voyage with some workmates. Inside they were right in the middle of shifting a few displays around but that didn’t stop me from accidentally buying a handful of awesome things at excellent prices. I even found some pitted cocktail cherries I’d been on the hunt for! My trip to the Hawthorne Pantry was clearly Meant To Be. The gents were so helpful and friendly, I only wish I wasn’t on a timed visit so I could have poured over every nook and cranny. I’m a sucker for good packaging, and the brown paper bag with the logo sticker just sealed the deal for me. That is one lovely logo. I’m sold.

I love butter. I love French butter. I love Warnambool butter. I just really love butter. So when I saw that Hawthorne Pantry stocked three types of Australian butter I’d never heard of I was pretty excited. That experience just about sums up this store’s attitude towards retailing. They go for niche, and then they go an extra mile or two. You can lose yourself in here for ages, and walk out a bit poorer, but sometimes a little extravagence can make the world of difference. The service here is also second to none, so that probably eases the pain on the bank account a trifle…
