This pastry shop is a must stop if you’re ever in Sydney and want genuine Lebanese pastries. This is a family owned shop that’s been doing business for over 30 years. I came here for the famous baklava and also tried a sample plate of their other yummy pastries. They have homemade gelato as well, which I did not indulge in, and chocolates that are wrapped in beautiful paper and arranged in gift boxes. I’m told that those are very popular as gifts. The service was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. This is a very lovely place to go for coffee and pastries!

This place is great! If you want genuine Lebanese sweets than look no further! It’s at the top of the street near the police station and a cross form from the train station. They have a seating area which usually isn’t very full but don’t worry most people just go take away but if you are with a group of friends it’s so nice to sit and relax and enjoy the amazingness that is abla’s. First choice always! Lady’s arm. Ask for lady’s arm 2 each is perfect around $ 2.50 each I’m pretty sure. And watch your friends enjoy the tastiest dessert ever! If you feel like an adventure get the sweet cheese!(Ask for a Single serve $ 7 – 8) Oh man, it’s a bit different but it so yum! Just try it! Get a short black and glass of water(which it will normally come out with) and sit down and enjoy the awesomeness that is Lebanese sweets. Not the main stream stuff but the real authentic sweets. Now. Don’t expect the service to be to fancy and there to be wait staff, it’s just a sweets place that lets you sit down. You order and pay at the counter and they will bring it to you and that’s about it. Don’t think I have seen a smile there all the years I have been coming here. but that’s not what’s it all about. Duck down the road get some garlic chicken then go up to abla’s for dessert. Trust me you won’t regret it!

I remember when this place used to be a bank. Little has changed in the layout but now the currency is Lebanese sweets. You can buy Abla sweets in many places but I just love this place. Where the bank clerks used to sit are huge plates of baklava or nougat or monster Easter eggs due to the season. They also sell gelato and cakes. If you want to have a coffee there is space for that too.

This is the only place(both their shops at Granville and Merrylands) where I’ve been buying Lebanese sweets from. It’s hard for me to provide an accurate description of how delicious their sweets are. It’s one of those things where ‘you simply have to try it to know how delicious it really is’. As a matter of fact I usually end up close to finishing a whole plate of the sweets by myself. I love the pistachio baklavas the most but they have a wide range of sweets and cakes sold in their stores to cater for everybody. They sell a lot of platters so if in case of an emergency(e.g. when you are in dire need to come up with an idea for a gift to give someone at the very last minute) come here and buy a platter. The platters have assortments of the sweets pre-packed(or you could ask to buy specific ones). The platters are usually wrapped nicely as well.

I’m not Lebanese and so my creds to actually review this place is probably not so good. However, we bought a medium platter of an assortment of baklava for a friend’s BBQ and they loved it… And they were Lebanese! In fact, a student from Lebanon was there who had only been in Sydney for two weeks and said it was pretty legitimate baklava that tasted just like those he has in Lebanon! So there :) Anywho, I do love this place and it’s been here for as long as hubby remembers! And we ain’t young! He was met with friendly customer service that day too! We also received complimentary almond biscuits when he asks to buy a couple to try. She ended up giving him 4! It was during Chrissy-NY time, so we may not expect this generosity all the time :) Definately, will come here again for sweet needs when visiting our Lebanese friends and when we have a baklava craving!

This place is Middle Eastern dessert heaven. The only thing I could recognise was the baklava so it was a bit overwhelming when I first went here, wanting to get one of everything without really knowing what they were. And also as a newbie, I had no idea how the ordering system works, but I got by when I said to the lady at the counter, «Can I get five pieces of…» walked to wherever it was and pointed to what I wanted. On my second visit, I discovered that you need to specify which plate size to get and then you can point and pick what you want. The big plates seem to be good value for parties or events. There’s hardly any labels at their displays so it’s hard to know what exactly it is that you’re getting if you’re not familiar with what they are. I think we’ve tried the sfoof and one flavour of their baklava, which are now both my favourites. They are pretty sweet and can get a bit sickening if you eat too much at one go, but delicious nonetheless, and great to get the garlic smell off your breath after a meal at nearby El Jannah. There are some tables and chairs for eating in, I reckon it would be good to get a group of friends together and get one of everything to get a sampler of what they have.

The baklava is divine! I received a large platter of baklava for my bday and I am addicted. At first, I thought it would be impossible for me to finish and I would have to bring them to work but I didn’t want to share, I wanted them all! It’s hard to pick a favorite, many different variations with walnuts and pistachio and different pastries. It is on the sweet side and you can taste the butter — I feel very guilty eating so many but they are delicious.

I’ve been having Abla’s baklava and other middle eastern sweets since I was a kid. Its been around that long(!) since the early 80s and even appears in some of my childhood birthday party pics! Arguably the best and largest lebanese pastry store in Sydney, its got everything. Normal ordering method is to choose the size of the clear plastic plate that you want and then you wander along the glass displays, point at what you want and I’ll add it to the plate. I wish I knew the names but there are no labels and I’m not that familiar with middle eastern sweets. So I purely go by taste and experimentation. But most are excellent and usually include crisp pastry, walnuts, honey, pistachios and cinnamon. The turkish delight is legendary and a must try. Apparently the gelato is really good so I might try this on my next visit. Note, all of the baklava are very sweet so keep that in mind when choosing the plate size — you can’t have a lot of it. But then I’m sure there will be friends/family hovering around to help you if you over order :) If you ever in the area please stop by Abla’s Pastry as they sell the best baklava in Sydney in my opinion.
