How many restaurants in Adelaide can claim to be popular enough to have a line up of 30 people waiting for opening time, and still have a growing queue of happy people waiting to get in 90 minutes later? Eggless has a great reputation, and for a good reason. The deserts are to die for(I had a 2 person tasting platter to myself), with a good variety of vegan and gluten free options. We were treated to blankets and gas heaters to keep us warm while we waited. The place was packed, had a great vibe, and everyone was invited to sing happy birthday to one diner.

EGGLESS! It needs no introduction, because everyone(hopefully) knows about it by now. I’m a fan and these past few months I’ve been going at least once a month, because of the monthly menu changes. It’s almost always worth the hour long waits, in rain or shine, which can be spent reading the menu(although I do that online beforehand sometimes). You also have to leave your name and number of people on the list and then get called in after some time. I usually come with a few others since it’s easier to order more desserts with more people. I’ll talk a bit about the May menu since it was the most recent experience. We ordered a Pandanmisu, Turkish Coffee Cheesecake, Death by Chocolate Sundae and the Miso Crème Brulee. I usually go for an Iced Teh Tahrik(Malaysian milk tea) since I’m obsessed with HK or Asian style milk teas. While it can be pretty sweet from the condensed milk but in my opinion it’s the condensed milk that makes the drink. My favourite by far was the cheesecake because it was accompanied by rose cream, rose jelly, Turkish Delight and a sprinkling of pomegranates and pistachio. It’s a match made in heaven! The cheesecake itself wasn’t overly sweet and had that slight salty & savoury taste from the cream cheese which was nice with the coffee flavour. But the real highlights were the rose cream and jelly. I really love the floral and fragrant flavour of rosewater and they did well because it can be pretty strong. There wasn’t too much rose cream or jelly on the plate so it wasn’t overpowering. The pomegranate, pistachio and Turkish Delight gives it some texture as does the chocolate biscuit base. The Miso Crème Brulee was another dessert that stood out, because I was thinking ‘was that miso as in the fermented soy miso?’ So I wasn’t sure what to expect… was it going be really salty and funky from the fermented paste? Surprisingly there was none of the powerful miso flavour and the custard was more like a salted crème brûlée, similar to what you’d expected in a salted caramel or salted chocolate. It was pretty tasty for the same reason and I would order it again given the chance. The Pandanmisu was solid, the tiramisu filling was light and somewhat subtle on the pandan flavour but you can tell it’s definitely pandan. But it wasn’t quite as nice as the first two. And finally the chocolate sundae(choc gelato, choc brownie, ganache and choc mousse and cacao nibs) which was my least favourite because I’m not a fan of excessively chocolatey desserts so it’s not their fault, since everyone else seemed to enjoy it.
I’ve been meaning to review Eggless for a while and the score reflects the past experiences I’ve had not just the most recent. It’s difficult to fault Eggless, although the menu is a little more creative and impressive on some months than others. The prices are fine– usually $ 10 – 14 depending on what you get and the serving sizes are decent. It’s always a good experience for me, chatting with friends or family over dessert and tea. The owner is always friendly and is quite a talkative guy! I always tell my friends who haven’t been to go at least once because I really think it’s one of the best dessert cafes in Adelaide at the moment.

I first discovered Eggless through a like-minded dessert obsessed friend, who exclaimed«YOUHAVEN“T BEENTOEGGLESS! GETYOURBUTTTHEREPRONTO!» This strange war-cry has now become my own, when I hear friends and family haven’t been I proceed to drag them there, using any excuse(it’s my birthday, it’s Christmas, it’s Easter, it’s a normal day so we should all eat sago, you know, the usual). This place, gosh, where do I start. I could talk about the delicious home-made South Australian soda they get from Two-Bit Villains(blueberry, apple pie, and blackberry are some of my fave flavours), or the fact that you can choose to make a spider with them WITHSOYICE-CREAM! Or normal ice-cream, but that’s for all those crazy cats who don’t get ill from lactose/people who have lacteeze in abundance. Or we could discuss the hot drinks menu, with many delicious teas that come in cute little teapots and tiny cups, to try and soothe your extended belly full of delicious desserts, or tasty coffee(do not have if you enjoy sleep and don’t normally drink caffeine past 4pm, trust me). Or we could go on about the menu that changes monthly, in tune with what is in season around Adelaide, meaning you are never bored and always intrigued! Also, one month per year they take votes from regulars on their fave desserts throughout the year, and make a menu out of that. If that isn’t giving a shit about what their customers would like, then I don’t know what is(although the friendly staff and owner, photos of happy customers on the photo board, ability to have multiple egg free, gluten free and vegan options on all the menu’s ever, blankets and heaters outside for those waiting for a table, and prompt service help too). If you really wanted to go in depth we could discuss the fact that this place is one of the first dessert places in Adelaide to successfully create a menu with a balance of Asian fusion desserts and present them to the uneducated dessert palate in a mouth-watering way, with examples being green tea crème brûlée and rose water sago. Finally, the prices here are fantastic. I have gone to many restaurants who have served me uninspired creations and charged me $ 17. If I wanted to buy a slice of plain bland-tasting lemon cheesecake for $ 9 at those big cafes, wait, what am I saying, nobody wants to do that really. It just happens sometimes. At Eggless, I have spent my last $ 15 for the fortnight, and left satisfied with the amount, taste, presentation, creativity and price for a big drink AND dessert. So if you haven’t been here, go. If you have been here, go again because obviously the menu only lasts for a month so you need to go back so you can try multiple things(ordering more than one or two desserts per person in one visit tends to get funny looks, although not from me, mine is a jealous look).

Eggless calls itself this place as it is egg free and specialises in vegan/lactose free desserts. I usually come by once a month to try out the new desserts and always undecided which ones to choose from. They usually don’t take booking so we wait in line and the owner pretty much knows us well as the regulars at this lovely place. As it is situated on a busy main road, it is difficult to park at times and were roadworks, however there are plenty of side street parking and easy walking distance to get to Eggless. For April’s desserts, I chose the tasting platter, which is pretty awesome as you received 4 different types of desserts in smaller portions. This month’s tasting platter was the: *Rosella, apple and vanilla bean panna cotta — Vanilla bean set cream, Rosella syrup, Stewed apple. These were displayed impressively and tasted amazing well. My favourite was the panna cotta as it was smooth and soft and the infused flavours of apple and vanilla were delectable. The hint of rosella was the perfect touch to this dessert. *Nutellamisu — Coffee & Kahula soaked sponge, Nutella mascarpone cream, Cocoa dust, Toasted hazelnuts. This was an interesting texture, it was overally sweet for me, but if you are a sweet tooth then you will definitely enjoy this. *Sweet potato, coconut and apple empanadas — Sweet potato, Apple, Coconut, Shortcrust pastry, House churned cinnamon & coconut ice cream, Salted caramel — This reminded of an Asian dessert dish, not an overly sweet desert as expected. I liked the coconut flavour and salted caramel. *Sticky date pudding — Butterscotch sauce, Vanilla ice cream(soy/dairy) This was standard, I thought it needed more ice cream and should be smothered in sweet butterscotch sauce. Overall a pleasant dish. The customer service provided are very friendly, quick and efficient. The staff wear funky uniforms and always have smiles on the faces. They do split orders for groups and take EFTPOS, so I can’t wait to return back for next month’s dessert.

Eggless is so very Adeladian in every way I like to think about it. Wonderful menu that is revised monthly, friendly staff and the worlds friendliest proprietor — the food has artisan quality but a homemade touch of love. You can tell that there’s the heart of a family at the Centre of this business. Of course eggless is tiny, you have to wait to get in. But I’ve never regretted waiting and have always left with a smile. I’ve gone to eggless for birthdays, engagements– it’s where I go when I’m happy. And I want to eat food that makes me happy too.

I love Eggless! You can always count on getting a beautifully presented dessert with amazing flavour combinations. This placd usually has a line up so it is always a good idea to go as early as possible, especially in winter! Another gem on Goodwood Rd!

The menu changes monthly, based on seasonal ingredients. While it may be on a slightly more pricey side, portions are just right. I’ve noticed takeaways so take a while, but it’s still worth the wait. The tasting platter is the most worth price wise and being able to try most of the desserts of that month. Owners are chatty and cheerful, attentive despite the busy crowd. Seems to get more crowded towards the last 2 hours, so either book or go early.

Eggless is such a treat. I do enjoy the process of going out for a late dessert, a sweet Vietnamese coffee and seeing what new things are on the menu. I love that eggless changes the menu up regularly, so you never know what new options you will have. The staff are friendly and sociable, and are happy to discuss what their personal favourite items are. The vibe is cool, the coffee is good, the desserts are indulgent without being too sweet. What more does one need?

We were a group of 7 and had nearly everything on the menu. Awesome creative dessert with an interesting twist. Menu changes monthly. I’m about to be a regular!

Eggless Dessert Café is one of the best cafes ever! With a new menu every month there is always something new to try. Best Teh Tarik outside of Malaysia and the roti and spring rolls are amazing! I might be biased when I say that the staff are some of the best people ever — because I am one… but that just means I know for sure!

Whilst expecting a wait of up to an hr we were pleasantly surprised it only took a few minutes and even then we enjoyed our moment under the outside heater on our comfy cushions. Inside was packed and pretty loud but it added to the atmosphere! The owner was funny, charming and a charismatic host popping puns into the convo like a pro. When the food came we were all super excited to try all the weird and wonderful combinations of cakes a flavors. The panna cotta was a winner for me whilst the pan dan… pan dang, pan thang cake won over my usually unadventurous boyfriends pallete. The prices were a teensy bit higher than the usual coffee shops were used to but more than justified the amazing food we were lucky enough to be able to try. Heaps of love for this place and the rotating menu means we’ll be back for sure!

So, I finally made it to Eggless. So many people were surprised that I had not already visited but my friend dutifully drove me there after we had dinner on the weekend so we could sample the menu. As other reviewers have mentioned the menu does change often(I think monthly?) but gluten free and vegan options are always available. The plunger coffee was delightful(I think I had the Ethiopian blend) and it was strong and delicious. Vietnamese coffee and the plunger coffee options are the only ones available though. No Cappuccinos here! My friend and I divided a Salted Caramel Mousse and also some chocolate/citrus cheesecake. Desserts are priced at around $ 10 a piece which is reasonable given the quality. The cheesecake was glorious but very, very rich. The Salted Caramel mousse was beautiful but I’m not sure if I would overwhelmingly describe the flavour as salted caramel, it had a much more subtle hint but I really enjoyed it regardless. They do charge a fee for EFTPOS which I’m not sure I agree with seeing as it is a convenient way to pay and business is booming for the Eggless team, I know there are fees attached to having an EFTPOS till set up but I think it’s reasonable in this day and age to waive the fee given how busy the store is. I’m a huge advocate for easy EFTPOS use. The staff are really lovely though and I really appreciated being able to have almond milk as a side to my coffee.

I’m well aware that Eggless is a much loved place for a lot of diners and dessert lovers alike, and no matter what day of the week it is whether it’s a Tuesday or Friday night there always seem to be a long queue outside and it’s of course due to their famous executed desserts. To be honest I never really understood the hype of this place until recently. I’ve been here on several occasions and yes I did like it a lot in particular the service being the best I have at any dessert bar but I just didn’t love it as much as my friends did and others I know. However, I have changed my mind and I am now putting Eggless along with The Aviary Dessert Kitchen as my two favourite dessert bars in Adelaide. I guess it grew on me! I love the buzz and the vibe of the place, it’s just so cozy and welcoming. The desserts are not on the expensive side(win win) and who doesn’t love the menu that changes every month? Impossible to be bored here. Last night I shared the tasting platter with my friend which was an easy and fun way to share four mini versions of desserts on the menu for that month, and at $ 22 it won’t do much damage to your wallet. It’s great for those who are indecisive as well. Their Vietnamese ice coffee is excellent and I can confidently that as I am from a Vietnamese background; my friend also told me that it’s exactly the same as the coffees she had in Vietnam. If you haven’t tried it yet you must! Eggless you have grew on me and I have grew to love you back.

Going against popular opinion here & possibly because it has so much hype but I was extremely underwhelmed! Also could have just been at a time with a below average menu(they change it monthly) but it was definitely not worth the hour long wait in my opinion. The Vietnamese coffee needed to be much stronger to balance out the condensed milk and the salted caramel mousse was way, way too sweet for my taste! Some of the staff were fantastic, but others were borderline rude– questioning me for not finishing my mousse would have left me with a sour taste in my mouth, if I could taste something other than sugar!

This place is absolutely awesome. A friend recommended it and the first time we went it appeared to be closed but they were actually just on holiday. Next time we were in and have attempted to go monthly since then(change menu each month) so I think we have had 8 or 9 visits. They are a vego establishment(lacto vego) but do many vegan options and also some gluten free(well marked). The desserts are inspired and well presented and they do tasting platters so if you can’t decide you can have a bit of 4 things. Currently they have an Australian themed menu and the tasting platter we had was the best yet. Their coffees are great. Hb had a vietnamese affogato which was like a dessert in itself. The MD /floor manager is a real hoot and remembers us every time we go and always manages to find time for a quick chat even though the place is always kicking! We love this place so much we have even bought gift vouchers to give as presents to others(esp baby sitters who allow us to visit).

Came here with a large group that had booked in advance(reservations possible for groups of 6 or more) on a Wednesday night. Eggless is very popular and the venue was quickly filled with others putting their name on a waiting list to be called when a table is available. All desserts and drinks were brought out much at the same time. I had the Morrocan Cheesecake, part of their May 2013 ‘Deadly Sins’ menu. The cheesecake was divine and looked almost too pretty to eat! Some desserts are available to take away. Most desserts were around $ 9/$ 10– a reasonable price for a delicious treat and something a bit special.

First impressions of Eggless is that it is very popular on a Saturday night, with not much else open. If you get there a bit later than opening time you need join the wait list. Easier for couples. We didn’t wait very long luckily. The dessert list looked tasty, with vegan options available. Good to see. I ordered the banana, pecan and caramel crumble. Not bad. I’d like to come back and try something else next time. The staff are friendly and talkative. Some will even fist pump you when you order. I love their free«sky juice».cute name. I’d love to come back during the week maybe after seeing a movie across the road, when it is not so busy.

What a great place for dessert. I have been here twice now, and whilst I queued both times, I appreciated that you get to put your name on a list so you don’t have to jostle for a place and viciously guard against pusher-inerers. They have a few vegan options with each menu. The first time I got the jam filled donuts which was delicious to say the least, it was accompanied by soy icecream. The next time I got a snickers sundae(the vegan option) which was soo good. I am not a big sweets person, so near the end it was all getting a bit rich for me. But I just had to finish it. The staff were all very friendly and both times I have been there the owner/manager has come out to say hi and make sure we are enjoying our desserts. I just wish they had the durian dessert in a vegan option. I really wanted to try it especially after the waitress warned against it if we previously hadn’t had a durian.

Eggless is hands down my favourite of all of Adelaide’s dessert bars. It’s not necessarily better than all the rest, but if I had to choose just one this would be it. Sure, the food is one part of it. Eggless is always changing their menu(monthly as it’s been mentioned) and they’re always plating up delicious homestyle desserts, but with interesting flavours. Whenever there is a dish containing either pandan, or banana & caramel, I’m completely sold. There have been dishes that haven’t been my thing, but it’s never put a damper on my night. There can be a wait, and people are used to it. It’s rare to drive past and not see a line up outside. But I love that it’s something they’re working on, and now you can pop your name on their list, add your phone number, and go off and do your own thing. They’ll give you a call when your table frees up and you don’t have to wait around outside. I also love that I never have to worry about booking, because well… they don’t take bookings. I like making spur of the moment decisions, and I know I can turn up at Eggless anytime and I’ll never be turned away, I just might have a bit of a wait. The atmosphere is great, the staff are lovely, and you never get that feeling like you’re being pressured to leave. It’s great. You should eat there. Now.
