Always super busy and happening café, with delicious coffee. They are extremely reasonably priced especially the breaky menu. It is simple, yummy food and there is lots to choose from.

Had some coffee here the other day which was pretty decent! The fit out is gorgeous — they recently renovated and the place is pretty much a Glenroy institution — it has been around since the 1940’s! The food is pretty average– foccacias, burgers… Fairly simple fair. It would be awesome if they amped up the menu to match their renovations!

Dairy Queen is an example of getting what you pay for. After at least 3 raves from locals I was prompted to have brekky here with friends. I had high expectations, which was probably a mistake. What was good: prices were cheap, tables were clean, food was cooked properly and advertised items turned up on the plate What could have been better: I haven’t had a breakfast come with white bread toast for so long that it didn’t occur to me to ask if it would be white bread. I had small country town flashbacks. Also, I got told off for standing in the wrong place(for a fair while I might add) while trying to order as their system was not obvious. I didn’t have a coffee but my companion’s report was not good. Baked beans were clearly from a tin. Fairly uninspiring all around. It’s an area without too many alternatives, but at least on a Saturday morning I’d recommend going elsewhere.

Popped in here to check this place out one mid morning this week. Not many café choices around this area I feel and this place was rumoured to be cheap and cheerful. No Smashed Avocado related dishes were on the menu so I ordered Eggs Benedict $ 12.95 + $ 2 for additional mushrooms(decent price). I was given a number and I asked if there were any newspapers around, they said yes but I would have to buy one…? Not a common thing charging for papers… so I declined. Unfortunately the Eggs Benedict was one of the worse I’d ever had. The poached eggs were under-done — which I usually would not mind however when I moved/poked them with my knife vingear water oooozzed around and made the entire thing a scary swamp and just watered down the hollandaise. The bread they used had a very hard texture and was super hard to cut. The spinach was put on without being wilted or dressed so I ate a bit but put it to the side. The bacon was 2 layers thick and just… added nothing to the dish(Sorry bacon!). And the hollandaise… well that was pretty minimal and non-remarkable. What a shame. The only plus was that the additional mushrooms that they added were very generous however a bit bland. I ate most of it however… and left and I don’t think I will ever be back… a shame!

The Dairy Queen reminds me of a 50’s style American diner in the heart of Glenroy! It’s the best known and most loved café in the area, renowned for its fresh and tasty food, quick and friendly service and for their awesome shakes! As well as that, you can’t get a better brekky this side of the city. Hearty and generous in size for around $ 10 you can get a fully cooked brekky, bacon, eggs, sausages, tomato and mushrooms, with tea or coffee, BARGAIN! The fresh, made to order salad rolls and sandwiches are brilliant — especially if you’re in a hurry, either eating in or taking away you’ll be served quickly and with a smile. My fave café/eatery in and around Glenroy, in fact my favourite north of Lygon st.
