The Glenelg Community Centre on Colley Terrace at Glenelg is a place for the Bay’s Senior Citizens to gather and spend time with their peers. There is entertainment on offer, guest speakers to hear and they also offer activities like bridge, snooker and indoor bowls. On Fridays the Snr Cits can get sweaty in a weekly exercise session at the centre. The building itself was built in 1964 on council land. It sounds like the establishment and growth of the centre over the years has been a real community effort with organisations like Lions, Apex and Rotary donating time, effort and materials to keep the centre operating. New members are welcome and the Centre can be hired for meetings but NOT for parties. They must have had some bad experiences with parties in the past because their sign saying that the building can be hired has the words ‘hire for social events’ crossed out!
