Having collected my bits and pieces from the information centre, Kings Square is a logical place to gather your thoughts(and belongings) before setting off on your next adventure. With an assortment of inspiring artworks(the statue of the old school photographer and posing artist is a personal favourite of mine), a doughnut vendor and lovely grassy patches and garden beds it really is a pleasant place to be. I didn’t realise until I saw a girl unplug her phone that they also have some outlets around the place for sly travellers and power thieves who need to recharge. I was also pleasantly surprised to see 2 tables set up for ping pong!(paddles and balls included under the side of the tables, but unattached– how’s that for trust?! WiFi friendly and a great central place to get your bearings, my appreciation for Kings square, and the people that gravitate to it, only grows.

King’s Square is a lively and sunny spot right in the centre of Fremantle, with benches, tables and chairs dotted around where you can stop to relax, lawns you can lounge on and trees whose shade you can enjoy. It’s a nice place to sit and eat lunch whilst watching Fremantle’s host of colourful characters go by. There’s even a giant chess set and table tennis tables at your disposal — literally, what more could you want? On Thursdays there’s a market in the square, which is notable for its accompanying food stalls — hello hot doughnuts. Beware, though — once I sat on the grass to read my book and got attacked by a small bird. Seriously, it dive-bombed my face. Just a warning.
