One of my favourite things about living in Fremantle is how present the Port is in the city; when big ships hit the port (especially the various navies), we get a big change in the kinds of people walking around town. Driving over the hill into town, the industrial lights provide the perfect contrast with the rest of Fremantle’s cosmopolitan vibe. Lynn’s covered the functional side of the port for visitors, but I just wanted to add that it provides a welcome dose of working class realness to what would otherwise be a pretty gentrified town.

Fremantle ports take up a large portion of the city of Freo visible from almost everywhere and spanning the boundaries of the river. They serve both as a functioning port and as a tourist site with markets and museums. Regular users make use of the B Shed to get the express ferry to Rottnest or to go on a river cruise. It is a very user friendly port with lots of parking and facilities.
