There is an indoor and an outdoor pool here. Unfortunately the outdoor pool can get far too hot in the summer and the gleam of sunscreen coming from the water will turn most people off. The indoor pool is 25m and becuase its a teaching pool it is shallow the whole way across.
I have never come across this before and it felt a bit odd and strangely it just encouraged me to rest in between laps, oops.
The rates are very cheap at only $ 5 for a casual swim which is more than reasonable.

I really enjoy using the 25m pool here, as it’s shaded and generally not too busy. When there are swimming lessons on, it’s often the case that there is one person walking in every lane; I think this could be solved with better signage. The larger outdoor pool is obviously better suited to swimming laps, but the lack of shade and my pale Irish-​Australian skin means that I would need to spend longer putting on suscreen than I would in the pool.
The pool runs swim classes that I find are very well conducted — my son has done both their toddler and school swimming programs and the teachers have been great with the kids. It’s been nice to watch them progress quickly through the swimming ranks.
There is a café here if you want to sit on a bench while your kids go nuts in the pool, but the service is a touch on the slow and grumpy side. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be happy just to have a coffee.
I actually just found out about the gym membership option from Miranda’s review, I’ll definately be taking that up soon, what a great deal!

Fremantle Leisure Centre is a great place to go for a swim, whether you fancy a leisurely dip or a hardcore aquatic workout. They have two pools, an indoor 25m one and an outdoor 50m one. It’s not usually too busy, although there are times when it is — but you can download a pool timetable from their website so you can check what’s going on before you go. Even better, it’s only $ 5 for a swim. The centre also has a gym and runs fitness classes. I’ve only used the pool so far, but I’m thinking about joining the gym — you can get a membership for $ 58 a month which includes gym, pool and all fitness classes — way cheaper than all the other gyms I’ve looked at!

I have to admit, when someone mentions the idea of visiting a public swimming pool, I have visions of screaming children peeing in pools, change room discomfort, cold showers, floating band aids and over priced chicken nuggets from unhygienic cafes. Fremantle Leisure Centre is the first public pool I’ve visited since high school swimming competitions, and I have to admit I was initially frightened of having year 8 flashbacks where schoolyard bullies stole my shoes. Fortunately for me, FLC is pretty chilled out and a great place to go for an afternoon dip. It’s usually never too crowded, although I’m assuming in the peak of summer it’ll be crammed. The stingy student in me also loves the fact that I only have to pay $ 4 for countless hours of leisurely breaststroke.
I usually stick to the outside pool as the inside pool is usually full of primary school kids decked out in floaties. Some of the lifeguards there are pretty cute too!
