Pho Kim Lan

I love this place. It is by far my favourite for a cheap night out. I have always experienced wonderful service, fast turn around and very very tasty food! It’s a huge menu featuring the classics and also some more authentic regional dishes. I really need to get out of the habit of ordering the same thing every time, I’ve never been disappointed when I’ve ventured outside my usual selections!

This place is memorable for three reasons: 1. The epic, epic menu that leaves us overwhelmed for choice 2. The super charming, endlessly friendly staff (see story below) and 3. OH MY GOD THE VEGETARIAN SPRING ROLLS. I wouldn’t bring someone here if I wanted to knock their socks off with Brissie cuisine, but it’s good, very affordable, reliable Chinese and Vietnamese. Except the vegetarian spring rolls. They are to-​freaking-​die-​for, no foolin’!
Anyway, story time! The last time I was here was for a birthday party, and it came to light that one of the waiters was working despite his wife being in labour with his (I think first?) child. He was super cute and excited, but despite us all (a rowdy table of 10+) insisting that he go and be with her, he politely and repeatedly declined. «Contractions are still an hour apart!» he would smile, and get back to business. Then, finally, the end of his shift came. Backpack slung over his shoulder, he dashed out the door yelling «I’m off to the hospital!». One of the girls from our group gave him a congratulatory squeezy hug, and the whole restaurant broke into applause as he dashed off into the night to become a daddy. N’aaaaawwwwwwww!!!
