This was my first stop in Melbourne friends had recommended. Had a couple of excellent coffees and the best chicken sandwich of my life. It’s what all local coffee shops should aspire to be

Nice little place, with great food and good coffee. The wait is on the long side, but the quality of the food makes it worth it.

Delicious sandwiches that ooze with fillings and taste. I seldom get past the Ruben which is delicious, however I hear good things also about the pork belly. For paleo types you can mix and match from the rest of the menu.

Just discovered this wee gem on Brunswick street today. Being so small it’s very easy to miss, but if you want good coffee on Brunswick street this place has it. The food is also incredible and very well priced. Try the sourdough with homemade pepper pesto, tomato and goats feta, delightful. They only lose a star because the waitress got my order wrong, This is now my favourite café on Brunswick street

Good sandwich places(I’m talking about the seriously good ones) are few and far between in this city — Martha Ray’s definitely one of them. Cosy ambience, unassuming setting and friendly staff. While the menu is not overly extensive, they are good at everything they do(at least the ones I have tried so far anyway). The Benalla pork belly(with crispy crackling no less!) is an absolute must-try — be there by 1pm though, as they are usually sold out after. The chicken sandwich is a winner too, so is the reuben(if meat is your thing). And yes, what good does a sandwich place do without good coffee hey? Well, Martha Ray’s definitely got this covered, serving one of the best coffee this end of Brunswick St(Newtown S. C is the other great spot, must lacking on the food front for sure). Be sure to give this tiny place a go — don’t tell too many people though, as it gets filled up really easily considering its size! ;) And oh, did I also mention they have printed copies of Broadsheet?
