A buzzing place on the Fitzroy end of Brunswick St. Set over 2 levels the atmosphere is both inviting and intriguing with dimly lit spaces and hand painted ceilings. The menu is an extensive selection of Izakaya dishes bursting with classic Japanese flavours. My favourite dish was the Chicken Karaage which came in either Honey Sesame or Salt and Pepper! Their Salt and Pepper Karaage is definitely now in my all time favourite radar and will be a staple when I come back to try more dishes.

This place is deceptive on the outside, but once you walk through those doors a Japanese oasis awaits you. A fun and friendly atmosphere with a huge menu(with tonnes of vegan options) will afford anyone familiar with the cuisine something to enjoy. Hands down one of the better restaurants I have been to in Melbourne, and with a fantastic rooftop bar above, it can be your one stop destination for a great night out!

Love this place! Came here for a late lunch after a busy and jet lagged morning. The menu was chock block full of my favourite Japanese tapas bites but we ended up going for their special bento boxes(lunch only) because it basically covered everything we wanted to order. I had the waygu set while my friend had the veggie option. I had a glass of umeshu over ice(I was missing my Ginza days ahhaha). My set had a little eggplant and tofu salad, salmon & kingfish sashimi, a palm sized piece of waygu, brown rice and a miso soup. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious, same with the waygu but the rest was soso. My friend’s had a seaweed salad, vegetarian sushi(avocado/cucumber/tofu/radish), grilled miso eggplant, agedashi tofu and also a miso soup. I had dish envy! The fit out is stunning love its vibe. I agree with the below review, a sushi bar would be really cool but I guess they’re not going to that sushi specific genre. The service was flawless(well it was like 2:30 pm on a week day), the guys were so accommodating when we had a bit of a goldilocks situation with the seating(too hot, too stuffy, too dark lol) Overall, amazing. Would love to come back for dinner, would be an excellent date place too!

Well it’s been open three weeks. What a wonderful place! The staff are super kind. We asked them to pick us various tapas and foods. Absolutely delicious! We were asking questions about what we were eating and if the staff weren’t sure they were determined to find the answers. My only constructive feedback would be that the hand soap in the bathroom could be a really nice option, especially for the amount of money you’re spending. And there was no sushi bar! One thing I love about Shinjuku is all the bars where you can sit and watch the chefs prepare you sushi! But anyway, highly recommend. Melbourne’s next big thing!
