Jaffles and Local Spirits
History
Established in 2014.
Bad Frankie is named after the infamous Governor of Van Diemen’s Land, John Franklin, who outlawed small pot stills in the early 19th Century. Unfortunately, this law was written into national law when the country was federated. It wasn’t until 150 years later when the ‘grandfather of Australian spirits’ Bill Lark overturned the law and had started to produce his own whisky. From Bill, the industry has expanded exponentially and continues to do so into a range of Australian spirits, whiskey, gin, vodka, liqueurs and so on.
Bad Frankie showcases the range of boutique Australian spirits from across the country and complements these spirits with the iconic Jaffle.
Although we understand the pressure on Governor John Franklin, we also lament on the time Australia has lost in this industry, and we can’t help think, what a Bad Frankie.
Meet the Business Owner
Sebastian C.
Business Owner
Sebastian (‘Seb’) has a keen interest in Australian foods, wines, beers and spirits. Over the past ten years Seb has visited a wide range of distilleries, vineyards and other farmhouse producers to gain first-hand experience of the production process of food and spirits across the world.
When he returned to Australia he discovered a world of Australian spirits that were coming into their own. Falling in love with the quality of the artisan style products, he decided to showcase these products through Bad Frankie, a bar that specialises in Australian spirits and jaffles.
Seb has been running cocktail bars and other hospitality venues for 13 years. He has a passion for his infamous ‘bottle and a box’ spirit collection at home, a love for anything distilled and a general reputation of being a good bloke.
Bars that Seb has managed include: Knightsbridge Penthouse, Parlour Wine Room and Trinity Bar (Canberra). In Melbourne he has worked with Whisky and Alement, Bar Ampere and Du Nord.
