The first thing I noticed about Edgecombe Brothers is on a beautiful day. The sun just glistens off the dam making a picturesque scene to enjoy a glass of bubbles and some tasty food. The staff are friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. They are open up for a bit of friendly banter just to break the ice to entice you to try some of their beautiful wines. On the day my partner and I went was a midweek day and there were still many people there. I like the outdoor dining. It’s nothing flash with the old outdoor furniture. You just have to put it out of mind and enjoy the beautiful ambience of the Swan Valley. It’s a rustic feel with great food and wine. After all that’s why we are there. You can go to the other wineries in the area that offer fantastic architect designed venues, if you are not fussed with the way a venue is then you’ll enjoy the service and food here with out a doubt.

Decided to try this place out as it will soon be my friends new local. We arrived around 1pm and while the restaurant was busy, they were able to seat us outside in the sun. The menu was a bit limited but we could all find something we wanted. I had the calamari with chips and salad. The meal was overly generous but the calamari was cooked perfectly and the salad was more substantial than just a bit of lettuce with a slice of tomato. I paired my meal with a glass of champers and it made for a lovely afternoon.

This was my first time at Edgecome Bros. My partner had been here before and suggested it when I said I wanted to go to Denmark for lunch — we use to live down south, a bit too far of a drive from Perth, just for lunch. The service was welcoming and efficient. Our waitress took our order shortly after arriving and our entrees arrived quickly. A little while later a waiter asked us if we were ready for our mains. We shared olives and chorizo. The olives tasted as though they had been marinated in red wine vinegar, it was surprising and different but nice. For mains I had an open steak sandwich & chips. The steak was thin, similar to a minute steak, the Turkish bread was fresh & there was a mountain on chips. It was tasty with what seemed like homemade BBQ sauce & mayonnaise. N had fish of the day, which was flat head. Again the portion was huge and full of flavour. I really enjoyed this place and would happily come back.

Some friends and I did a bit of a tour of the swan hill wineries. This was the first place we went to and by far the best. It was a lot quieter and so we got a much more personal experience. The man helping us was hilarious. You do have to pay $ 5 for the testing but it was well worth it, the servings are extremely generous and if you buy a bottle they take the $ 5 off the price.

This is a nice little café in the Swan Valley, situated on the top of a hill overlooking the vineyard. It’s nice and quiet and great for families. We popped in for a snack but the kitchen was closed at 3pm… so we had a Devonshire Tea instead. The devonshire tea was pretty good value — $ 9.50 for two scones and either tea or coffee. The scones were served with cream and a grape jam which was quite nice. I found the service a little slow, but I think that might have been the relaxed approach to the café. The scones were nice but a little dry and crumbly. I order a separate affogato, which was ok except it could have done with either a nice large scoop of ice cream or two medium sized scoops. There wasn’t enough ice cream in the affogato to make it nice and cold like it should be, and instead was luke warm… The location is gorgeous, green and peaceful — so that was a nice change from the city hussle and bustle :)
