If you want low key, great Japanese food at a good price then Makizo is perfect! The Age Dashi Tofu was amazing and we loved every sushi roll we got. BYO!

Cherry blossom wallpaper sets the oriental tone in this bustling Japanese joint. A surprisingly extensive menu for such a quaint establishment commands a couple of visits. Fresh is the order of the day. Wakame salad is an essential seaweed and sesame starter. Tempura prawns are light as air and crunchy as. Gyozas — pork or prawn — are steamed then fried, which takes the agony out of deciding. The chicken Yakitori is anything but ‘yaki’. Perch fillet with bok choy and ginger sauce is caramelised, sticky and lush. … and I haven’t even got to sushi. Bottom line — you can’t go wrong, so long as you book of an evening, otherwise you won’t get in! Locals love this place. Service is Japanese — fast, friendly and efficient. Licensed and BYO… give a glass of the plum wine a go as a sweet, fruity nightcap. Tip: Watch out for rogue edamame beans. Overzealous ‘squeezers’ have been known to send those slippery little suckers flying. I’ve been hit a few times.
