Bar 9

This trendy café on Glen Osmond rd is all about what is cool in the world right now.
First things first! The coffee is exquisite here, they vary from your standard latte to cold drip — there is literally a coffee menu!
A decent food menu ranging from light eats, breakfast and lunch include flavours and themes from all over the world, breakfast is available until 12 which suits me fine — however I do love my all day breakfast.
Simple Bacon and Eggs is made to look elegant. San Jose bacon rolled into beautiful little pinwheels are served with crusty ciabatta, poached eggs, rocket and Parmesan. It tastes as good as it’s sounds with the Parmesan a surprise hero.
The prices are decent interestingly, Bar 9 are bucking the trend of most trendy cafes around Adelaide. The customer service is chipper and snappy which some people may know by now — is hugggeee A+ from me.
When we arrived the place was quite busy, we were seated quickly however it took between 30 – 40 minutes to receive our food. I will let that slide however. A couple of things that did disappoint me, there’s no split bills, and a very conspicuous lack of uniforms — yeah casual clothes keeps a chill vibe but a uniform is called a uniform for a reason — to unify. Plus I’ve seen plenty of uniforms that all conform to the same standard but still look awesome and relaxed.
Bar 9 to me are a finished article there are some things that I would change personally — but they don’t deserve to lose points on account of my ocd!

I like to think I have a ‘favourite’ in all different suburbs/​parts of Adelaide so that no matter where I find myself, if I want something nice, I won’t be disappointed. I love trying new but when the old favs are 5 star faves, well…
I first came to Bar 9 when it was in a tin shed type building on the north side of the road and almost had a fit when I drove past one day and it wasn’t there. I actually did not see (or simply forgot they had flagged the move) that they had moved ‘across the road’ and had to google to get my answer.
The old tin affair was great and I don’t think anything changed with the move. The shed was small and squeeshy but felt nice, the food was terrific, the coffee amazing. The new shop is a lot bigger but kind of broken up with different seating and somehow still interesting. It feels a little bland when you walk in but doesn’t stay like that.
In terms of food and drink it hasn’t changed. I can’t say its better because they’re food is what they do very well and I’m not sure they can improve it — it’s just great. Coffee also cannot be faulted and lets face it, I wouldn’t eat there if the coffee was no good. I don’t experiment with my beans but if you wanted to you could. So when I’m in the south-​east of the city fringes, Bar 9 is where I go.

I have heard a lot of hype about Bar 9, and I have been meaning to get there for a while.
I have frequented Bar 9 Central on several occasions and have been very impressed with the atmosphere created (which is no mean feat, given it is in the middle of a food court). So when I finally got the chance to go to Bar 9 proper — I had high expectations. Unfortunately these were not met.
The atmosphere, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired. It is clear that the café was setup inside an empty shop on Glen Osmond Road — and it still looks like a pop up café.
The coffee was good — but the food in my opinion was only OK. The furniture was an eclectic mix of stuff — which while this works in Bar 9 Central — I think it adds to the pop up (unfinished) feel of Bar 9 (which didnt impress me much)
I also have a problem with a café such as this that refuses to split bills. As a stay at home Mum — I have become increasingly aware that cafes like this get a lot of their week day business from other stay at home mums like me — and business meetings. These circumstances are not always great for being able to pay the bill all together. Thankfully when we were there, I had cash and a friend was able to pay with his card — but this is not often the case (as I dont often carry cash)
As I said the coffee was great — so it is still a good option for a coffee on Glen Osmond Road — however, I dont think it lived up to the hype.

Pram Access — Depends on how busy they are, as the tables are packed fairly tight together. However there is a reasonable amount of parking near by — so I just took my daughter in her capsule.
Breastfeeding Friendly — Yes
Parents Room — Not sure — as I did not need to use one while I was there
Will this Mum be returning — probably not

Sorry! I’ve slept on it and I am still ambivalent!
The coffee lived up to its’ reputation but the Latte glass was very undersized and the 20 mm of froth on the top was more deserving of a cappuccino. Taste, I have to say, was broad and rich.
Now the food… this is my dilemma. We both had the Avocado on toast with persian fetta, tomato and sweetcorn salsa, chilli oil, coriander and fresh lime.
I am still a bit affronted that my avocado with riddled with bruised black spots, some the size of a 10c coin, but at the same time I did embrace the fact that the food was not wasted as I have issues with that too. However for the price ‚$ 17. which was probably $ 5. overpriced I would have expected better. My slice of lime was well hidden and unlike my sons’, had absolutely nothing in it to squeeze and I wondered if had been pre-​loved. Overall I had gone there to be Wowed and just wasn’t.
The ambience was the saving grace and was certainly abuzz and the place to be.
The waiter was very helpful and attentive and no faults there.
However, when I went to pay I was overcharged and when I queried it I was made to feel quite uncomfortable and had to stand my ground that we had only one skinny latte and not another two flat whites on top. The barista doing the bill didn’t handle it too well and then handballed it to the Guy in charge who sorted it out but we had to plead our case all over again and my son (16) who clearly felt his mother’s’ integrity was at stake, stepped in and assured them that he was only 16 and didn’t drink coffee and had just had water. I don’t recall a single «sorry» during the process.
Would I go again? Well, I would certainly give it a second chance as I have heard so many good things about the place. Sometimes though when a place is so well lauded they live on their reputation and loyal frequenters and slightly lose sight of the acme standard they are known for. Perhaps this is the case or perhaps I just caught them on a bad day?

Heard this place was good so I tried it. Glen Osmond Road precinct pretty busy and a bit run down (will become quirky if a few more places like this move in) but this place is worth the visit if you’re in area.
Even though the place is casual they bring you to a table on arrival. First mistake, they tell you where you want to sit, they should ask. Also they don’t ask if you’re eating or just having a coffee so they work out where to sit you. Then they bring you the menu but didn’t mention they had a specials board (for breakfast you might not expect to look for one). That said the staff were lovely, quick and efficient (it was a less busy period but great to see plenty staff). Also the place is big, roomy, not noisy and plenty seating options. Even the water is brought to you without asking.

A1 breakfast 5 stars, even the ciabatta toast was amazing and on the side. The baked beans were home made. The asparagus not over cooked, all perfect!!!
Also they have some yummy looking Mueslis.

I’m sad to admit that until yesterday I’d never heard of Bar 9. I’m happy to say that now that I have — I intend on being a regular whenever I’m in the Eastwood area!
Under no circumstances must you let the exterior fool you; once through the doors a mixture of wonderful aromas greets your senses! The first of those for me was the coffee — like most folk, I’m often greeted by this as I enter any similar establishment! But somehow this was different. It begged me to sample one instantly — so I did! And was not disappointed!
My lunch companion had chosen Pumpkin soup for her meal so I decided to join her. Now there’s Pumpkin soup and there’s Bar 9 Pumpkin soup! Blended with honey and fresh cream, and accompanied by freshly toasted bread, my palate was delightfully surprised with this amazing treat! When the first words that you say after that initial taste are «OMG!» then you just know it’s special!
I am now so looking forward to my next visit so I can try some of their other deliciously appetising offerings.
Bar 9 bar none I say!

Bar 9 provided the perfect spot for Public Holiday brunch. Located on Glen Osmond Road, Bar 9 isn’t far from the CBD and there is ample street parking available.
We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table — but for a Public Holiday in a busy café, it was a pretty short wait time.
Our coffees came out first, and I would have to say that it was one of the best lattes I’ve had in Adelaide.
I ordered the Bircher muesli and fruit loaf — both were delicious, very fresh and I could tell that good quality ingredients were used.
Overall, Bar 9 is an amazing breakfast/​brunch venue and I will definitely visit again.

Great coffee, great food but was let down on the tea. Over brewed and no one asked about the second infusion. I came specifically on a recommendation from a tea friend so was feeling let down by that.
Felt very much like a hipster Melbourne café. Very busy. Some staff were really friendly and helpful.
I would defiantly go back next time i’m in Adelaide.

After reading and hearing all the hype I decided to visit Bar 9 for breakfast and to try out the coffee menu. I wasn’t disappointed. The place was buzzing and filled with trendsetters and foodies alike — reminding me of similar places in Sydney and |Melbourne.
On arrival the place was full, so I was asked to wait for about ten minutes till an available table was vacated. My only complaint was that I was asked to sit at a long table on a crate like box! I’m sorry but I don’t dine — sitting on a box — it might do for the younger diners, but I don’t find it hip.
I sampled the Runciman’s Breakfast $ 16.00 which consisted of 2 eggs (cooked which ever way you like) two whole tomatoes, nicely rolled bacon morsels and three field mushrooms. I was disappointed with the number of mushrooms.
Anyway the coffee was the house speciality. I ordered the house blend (done exactly as you asked — strong or weak). The cups are a bit small — so for the second round I up-​sized to the mug.

Very cool café. Huge, bustling (but with such lightning fast service tables turn over pretty quickly), and artfully laid-​out (one nook looking like a future museum exhibit that might be called ‘Suburban TV room, circa 2000 AD’).
Only sour spot was that my original choice on the menu that I had my little heart all set on was sold out, leaving me having to select a second choice I wasn’t as in love with. (I kind of cracked the sads and just got the ham toastie… still pretty good.) My partner got the mushrooms in truffle oil with poached eggs which cheered me back up with their deliciousness.
Told that the coffee there is some of Adelaide’s finest, but can’t vouch first-​hand for that. They seem to take it pretty seriously though!

In the middle of a weekday when I visited Bar 9 was pumping. Why everyone wasn’t at work, I have no idea, but it was clear they were here for big plates of brunchy items from the creative menu and the coffee that was being made with some seriousness. I didn’t eat on that occasion, but the flat white I had was beautifully made with silky milk and a punchy shot.
I liked the warehouse vibe here and the staff were super friendly meaning I’ll absolutely be putting Bar 9 on my list for future visits to Adelaide.

Every time I go to Bar 9 I am reminded why it is one of my favourite coffee destinations! Coffee is a craft, and this bunch have their skill at a very high level.
They source nothing but the best beans. They experiment and have a diverse menu for all different palates.
The coffee isn’t the only good thing about this café. The breakfast menu is amazing! Arguably one if the best brekkies in Adelaide.
I could not go past the House Cured Ocean Trout when I saw that lil baby on the menu. Very well presented meal and portioning. The trout was sweet and cured perfectly. A nice touch was the addition of crackling trout skin. I noticed hints of pickled vegetables and balanced with watercress, dill, creamed cauliflower and served high quality grained rye bread. To top it off they serve it with roe, for those little bursts of salty goodness.
Thank you Bar 9 for taking so much care in what you serve to your customers. I will now be part of your ever growing fanbase!

One of my favourite places! I go in there almost everyday for coffee before work and the service is always friendly — gives me the best start to the day! Ian and the boys know their coffee and are so passionate and helpful.
Breaky is great too. The mushroom ragu is to die for, the bircher muesli is the best I’ve had and very substantial, and the Asparagus on Toast had everything you could ever want in a breaky — so many textures and flavours. They also sell delicious, boutique tea’s and I would recommend the Oolong Gaba if you’re inclined to try something a bit different.
I couldn’t recommend this place enough!

Just returned from London reviewing their best Coffee Café scene, the Australians & New Zealanders have stamped their mark in London. On our return we visited, the Bar 9 Café Glen Osmond Rd, which is up for the best in Australia. On Monday midday the café is humming, obviously local customers appreciate, the coffee and wholesome food, the ample and varied table space and the comfortable leather corner settees. Wall art, old coffee making paraphernalia, antique natural wooden floors and various old style dining chairs and stools, old crates and large barrels contribute to the aged, careworn décor style creating a comfortable easy ambience. We thoroughly enjoyed a home made style pumpkin soup with toast, and their award winning coffee.
The service was friendly and professional, thus ticking all the boxes, making for very relaxing dining experience.

Bar 9 is my local, and by my local I mean I live around the corner from it. This is one of 5 places in Adelaide I would recommend for coffee, however the service is the worst I have ever experienced. I have been in about 5 times for a sit down breakfast and/​or coffee. The first time was with a japanese houseguest and my family. The place was quiet. When you enter there is no signage to ask you to wait to be seated and absolutely no acknowledgement from the staff that you even exist. As a hospitality worker I am shocked by this lack of acknowledgement as it is rule number one ‘Let your customers know you are aware they are there’. After waiting 10 minutes I walked up to the barista as no other wait staff would acknowledge me and he got a waitress to follow me back to my table with menus. She then took off before we could order table water/​drinks. After ten minutes I went in search of her so we could order. She proceeded to take half the tables food order and before the rest of us could order our food and drinks she walked off. The meals arrived in good time and when they were brought I ordered for the rest of the table plus the drinks we never got to order. The last and final time I went to this café was with my partner for some breakfast, there were about 5 people in the place and we waited by the door for about two minutes both of us seeing the servers glance at us but turn the other way. We sat down and waited, after 15 minutes of no service or acknowledgement we walked out and had a delicious meal down the road at Duthy Street Deli where we were instantly welcomed seated and orders taken within 2 minutes. This is a real pity because the owner Ian is a lovely guy, the baristas (namely Suresh) are fantastic as are the chefs. But after 5 repeat performances (with the same wait staff) like that I will not be returning and letting all my friends know to avoid.

Warning: You’ll get addicted to Bar 9 if you can’t go a day without coffee or you have a serious obsession with brunches! Luckily for me, I suffer from both and have found a great love for this spacious, friendly, funky place!
As soon as you walk in, the glorious brewed coffee smell hits you in the face and drags you towards the nearest seat (there’s many available) to start tearing into the menu full of hearty and healthy options!
I have to say I loved the staff service, their happy attitudes and smiles were immediately contagious!
P. S. Do try the poached eggs with asparagus on sourdough. Brunch never tasted so bloody good!

My local haunt. The coffee here is what gets me up in the morning. The food is superb with plenty of variety. If you seriously love coffee then this is the only place to be.

We went here again today and the 5 star stands!
I had food this time and we decided to order one meal to share. It was a fantasticly generous serving size that they put onto 2 plates for us! It was very filling for half a serve and I couldn’t image them fitting both serves onto one plate! I’ll upload a pic soon.
For the coffee, I went with the baristas blend today, which was very interesting. Much more complex than the house blend of most places as it is designed for coffee nerds that like it different. I always feel slightly ashamed when I ask for it in a soy latte as that immediately masks much of the complex flavours. It was delicious nonetheless!
The service was friendly and the vibe was relaxed. Both times I’ve been here they have been playing hip hop tunes that I like. Maybe not for everyone, but certainly for me :)

Had the pleasure of eating at Bar 9 for lunch today.
I ordered the beef sliders from the specials menu which tasted amazing.
The service was great and very friendly.
Coffee was so good that I decided to get a take away for the road.
Will be back for sure.

This place is 5 Stars all the way. My first visit to this establishment was during a group bike ride. One of the staff saw us coming, greeted us and directed us to our own area. We were given bottled water immediately and the coffees rolled out almost straight away.
The coffee was magnificent, so rich and smooth. All of the coffee addicts in the group raved about it. Staff said the coffee blend is called 5 senses.
The café itself is very spacious with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
