Wow. Amazing food. I had the polenta chips(could have used a little more sauce), the Mediterranean fritata, and lemon cream with mint frozen yogurt and raspberries for dessert. Accompanied with some good wine, recommended by the waiter. A bit on the pricy side, but it was the best meal I’ve had in a couple years.(I live, travel, and eat out a lot in the US.) Shocked to learn it is part of the Mantra hotel.

Went to Cornerstone for lunch on a friday. It was surprisingly busy and we didn’t have a booking(it was five of us) and they managed to get us a table. We ordered the lunch special, $ 12 bucks for steak, salad and chips. Steak was perfectly cooked(I ordered medium), pepper sauce/gravy was to die for, chips were also great. Lunch menu had a good range from burgers, pasta, fish and chips, soups and salads… What I was most impressed was the customer service, we had to wait a while for our meals to arrive, an issue when you are on your work lunch break but they offered us a complimentary drink. I wasn’t expecting that and thought it was really nice! I’ve heard dinner can be quite pricey. Beer, good steak & chips special deal for $ 12 = winner! Food was really good and I’ll be going back but my stars are going especially for the customer service.

If you like a bit of food-porn then the Corner Stone on Hay is for you. A quick look at the menu had me going«ooo» with excitement, as I read through the selection of creative, exotic-sounding dishes. To complete this, our waiter was superbly French! Lucky, ‘coz I’m not hot on pronunciation. My order was a vegetarian field mushroom and pumpkin blue cheese lasagne, complete with a darling pear and walnut salad. My dining buddies went the meaty way with pork-rib and lobster dishes, which looked equally delicious and wonderfully presented. I ate this up with my eyes in a big way. And oh my goodness, dessert! This was the highlight, I think. I had a New York Oreo cheesecake which was enormous and delicious. My sister’s dish, meringue with strawberries and burnt balsamic and ice-cream definitely won out though. There were many other dishes ordered on our table that were equally as exciting, I just wish I’d had room to try them! My only two criticisms would be a) the price(I clocked up about 50 for my main and dessert) and b) the erm, ‘healthiness’. There were mere hints of vegetables in the dishes and I’m sorry to say my lasagne was way too cheesy and oily for my liking. Nevertheless, delicious… The ambience was relaxed and quiet, despite being in the heart of the city, and the staff were so friendly, even throwing in a side of ice-cream with my cheesecake on request(I like to break it up, you know). Saving this one for a special occasion, but I would definitely dine here again!
