I have been to this place with different groups of people and each time, we have enjoyed the food, the location was perfect, tucked within a waterway with various bars and alfresco restaurants nearby, makes the Blackbird a good place to end up after having a drink at the nearby trendy hotel. The food was delicious and the dessert tasting plate was generous and ideal for sharing.

I heard this place was good so I came here with my girlfriend and being a student I don’t come to high priced places often. The atmosphere and staff were nice enough but the food was so small you just about needed a microscope and tweezers to eat it! I mean I know that small and delicate is a thing and even I can appreciate it sometimes(I prefer a decent volume of food over exquisite taste), but the taste wasn’t even anything special! I’d say I cook nicer things at home! So this place was a huge(or small?), expensive let down.

We landed at black bird spontaneously and they did not disappoint! We had an entrée, main and shared a dessert! All meals were delicious and everything came out in a timely manner! The staff were lovely and provided exceptional service. Will be back again!

Saturday night was date night, so the boyfriend and I ventured out to this little secluded gem in East Perth. Located right on the water, Blackbird is a small, intimate venue perfect for a romantic dinner or catch up with small group of friends. French inspired cuisine with a large cheese selection and an impressive wine list(with lots of French tasty drops on there) certainly didn’t disappoint ‘mon amour et moi’. Having a French waiter certainly added to the authenticity! We started with an apéritif(approx $ 14 each) and scoured the menu — was mostly sharing plates(approx $ 18 per dish) with a few choices for main. We ordered the calamari with smoked tomato(so delicious, we ordered another); seared scallops(4 delectable morsels of goodness on fennel cream); steak tartare(beautifully balanced with capers and French mustard); prosciutto with melon and lemon ricotta; and sweet potato crisps. Polished off with a bottle of French grenache(very reasonably priced at $ 40) and two coffees. Definitely would recommend this spot — vraiment romantique!

Should have known. Good spot, lovely view but still go home feeling a bit Meh. Maybe it is the comparison with tonight’s other venue Lot 20 but this place has no real atmosphere. Pleasant enough staff, small menu not cheap and maybe not bad but not great either. Perth now has lots better. Lots. 20 of them. At least

I tried the beef tartare, chips and an Old-Fashioned(which they made at my request). The location and décor are lovely, and the food and drink were great. This restaurant is a quiet gem hidden away in Claisebrook Cove. Definitely worth a try.

One of the unexpected delights of this little suburban restaurant perched on the side of a pond and underneath an apartment block is the discovery of a tasty French Cider that was NOT automatically treated as a soft drink and suffocated in a glass full of ice! NON! Our«garçon» deftly poured a 1⁄3 into an ample shiraz glass and invited me to enjoy the«zmok-ee-ness» and assured me «eet eez nuzzing like your oss-tray-lee-arn zyderz» … The beloved had a glass of Tomfoolery Pinot Gris whilst perusing the small but focused menu. The Barossa wine was hailed as «perfect» and a second was required to compliment her snapper(or «Shapper» if you watch a certain reality cooking show). Entrées arrived and we eagerly devoured the pork mince croquettes along with the lightly fried calamari. Standout dush was the croquettes a crisp outer and a veritable Cascade of roast pork flavour from a soft and creamy mash… delightful! The Beloved enjoyed the calamari and whilst tender and well above average wasnt«the very best» I’d enjoyed but still very good. Serving of the mains was nicely paced and at no time during the evening did we feel rushed, simply allowed to enjoy the people watching and pleasant mix of ambient music that emanated from somewhere within. Opting for the beef fillet I felt a robust red was in order and«garçon» obliged by pointing me past the French and straight to the sister shiraz from the S.A. geniuses at Tomfoolery. @$ 14.50 a glass it had better be good… it wasnt… it was fknspectacular! Fillet came medium rare as requested, served in a low dish on a smokey eggplant atop a wildrice something that I enjoyed but forgot to pat attention to because I was enjoying it and the wine too much… The Beloved enjoyed he snapper but was slightly disappiinted it was not accompanied by the risotto she saw on Unilocal.the mash/purée was nice but fish was ever so slightly over cooked but still enjoyable… her comment…(and influenced by aforementioned reality cooking show judges) it just didnt have that WOW factor. … Desert was a shared chocolate mousse with homw made icecream and seasobal berries accompanied by another excellent glass of Le Chat Noir Cider. Overall a delightful night with an enjoyable meal, unobtrusive but friendly and prompt service and the $ 200 bill was made more bearable by the thoughtful Xmas gift of a $ 100 gift voucher from No1 son and partner

Lovely little restaurant in a very secluded area with such a gorgeous view on a Friday night. Staff were attentive and it was a lovely intimate setting. Menu was limited but it still made the decision process very hard! I had the pumpkin soup for entrée, it was delicious especially with the saffron croutons! Main I had the risotto with the fish of the day, I did try some of my friends lamb shank and the mushroom pappardelle AMAZING! :) Price is reasonable and would definitely come back!

Blackbird’s alfesco area is lovely, with little pot plants of succulents and flowers lining the windows of the restaurant. They also have a basket with Aerogard!(Mossie repellent!) — SCORE. All restaurants with an outdoor area should have one! We didn’t use it, but I probably should have because I was starting eaten alive. Anyway, the restaurant is so cute, all painted black inside, cosy little thing. Very Mediterranean style on the outside. Reminds me of the many Paris and Nice restaurants. We were served by a very friendly, funny waiter, who was very helpful in terms of choosing our dishes to eat for the evening. We were rather indecisive. Even though the menu was small, everything on it sounded pretty yummy. We ended up sharing an entrée, a main each and having two small desserts to share. For the entrée we opted for the Blackbird plat du jour — which consisted of skewered prawns and squid, brie with toasted bread and blackberry jam and chirozo on fried polenta. The skewered prawns and squid was delicious. Lightly grilled and had that smokey taste to it. It was on top of a bed of salsa/tomato sauce. Perfect for summer. The brie and the jam was delicious, the jam was sweet and lovely, I wish there the slice of brie was thicker or more brie in general(they kind of skimped out on it) because the jam seemed to have overpowered the taste of cheese. The chirozo were a little tough but are of good quality. I would have preferred it without the polenta and perhaps a few more pieces of chirozo. I suppose we did only order for one plate, but it left us wanting more. Overall it was a good start to our dinner. For the mains bf had his favourite meat — beef. This time in the form of beef stracci, sweet potato, mushroom. The beef was delicious. It was char-grilled. It had this lovely smokey taste and the beef was tender. The fish of the day was grilled snapper in a wonderful seafood broth, with a «nest» and salad. The snapper was perfectly cooked and again had that smokey flavours through it. The seafood reduction was so well seasoned and you can really taste the seafood. For dessert — beautiful generous 3 scoops of 3 different flavors of homemade ice cream. And chocolate truffle. Let’s just say we went home happy. Bf and I ended up having a lovely dinner at Blackbird and I wouldn’t hesitate to refer the place to you. It’s a cosy restaurant, rather romantic and relaxing. The waitstaff are friendly and the service is always present. The menu is small, but they do the dishes very well and from the looks of the different plates coming out for other people it all looked beautiful. To top it off, the price is so decent for Perth. Worth checking out at least once.

Good service can make a massive difference, a friendly informal and won’t overly pushy group of staff will improve your night out here and make you feel relaxed and enjoy the rustic charm of the food. It’s not advertising the veggieness as all of the menu includes beef or venison or fish. In fact the venison and mushroom pie(first time I have tried venison) was delicious. I am not sure if it is socially acceptable yet to eat venison but it was definitely delicious.

What is the biggest draw card for Balckbird is of course the setting; situated at the quainter end of the Claisebrook water inlet; by the twinkling water and surrounded by pretty plain trees. Service from the wait staff is overly attentive. Your glasses will never reach the half-way line, napkins will be whipped into an artful coil as soon as you leave your seat, and the wait staff will even try and impress you with their wit. Menus take influence from Europe; mostly France. For a taste — the baked potato-topped fish pie(sounds less sophisticated than it is), sweet potato gnocchi with candied hazelnut, and pulled pork sandwiches with curried pickled cabbage; are all delish. I was disappointed in their portrayal of a panna cotta however, so my advice is to opt for entrée over dessert, if you’re delving in the two-course deal. In short — this is a fantastic little special occasion restaurant, with the poise of a hotel restaurant and the quaintness of a coastal France bistro. Ideal date night spot.
