If you don’t feel like inhaling a steaming hot four n’Twenty while risking tomato sauce dripping on your clothes but can’t quite imagine a full blown sit down dining experience while yelling out«ball» at the top of your lungs then the Hugh Trumble is for you. The Hugh Trumble is the perfect middle ground, an indoor/outdoor casual dining option within the MCC Members section of the MCG. Like anything at a sporting event, the trick is to get there early to avoid a queue. Unless of course, the game is Melbourne vs GWS then go ahead and arrive anytime. You can’t make a reservation and there is no table service but do not be perturbed as the kitchen is a well oiled machine. After ordering at the counter your food usually arrives at your table within 5 – 10 minutes. Just enough time for you to pop to the bar and grab a reasonably priced bottle of the MCC’s finest. If the sun is shining make a beeline outside as the large communal bench seating is well positioned to capture those rare but welcome winter rays. My go to dish is always the fish n’chips and so far, so good.
