Reminded me of home home cooking!!! Two days ago I was really craving German/Austrian food but had no energy to cook. Lucky me Dural was just around the corner. The waitress was running around like mad as she was the only one doing service. She was u we friendly and did a great job on her own as the restaurant was very full. The kitchen only had one chef(not sure if it was the owner though he did look Austrian). And than another young fella assisting. We ordered the veal schnitzel which was yummmoooo. And the pan-fried chicken Schnitzel with Spätzle. The chicken was a little dry but the homemade spätzle made it all the better. Though we where very full we still managed to squeeze in dessert. I had apple strudel and my partner at the special which was a crêpe with the load. Hahah. If you after home cooked meal and are hungry this place won’t disappoint. To complete it all they have a great selection of Austrian/German beer and Schnaps!

Ok, thus in summary, this place is amazing! So when you walk in here, you’ll think you are in someone’s house — and they turned it into a restaurant. Then they hand you the menu, which looked worse than my yr 10 assignments. And let’s just say from this point onward you are not expecting much. Then the food comes out and everything changes. And I mean changes. The food here is fantastic. The pork knuckle was one of the best that I have tried. Not only was the meat cooked to perfection, but the sauce is amazing! And nothing can get me past the sauerkraut, I love a good sauerkraut. And the best thing about this place is that you are not going to be paying a bucket load to eat here. Just a warning that if you are a vegitarian, you might not be a fan of this place. To put the cherry on top of the meat filled Austrian cake, is that the workers here are lovely. We come with children, and the chef came out in the end and gave each kid a lolly. So the whole experience was awesome.

Austrian food is often overlooked but how can we neglect the cuisine that gave us the Schnitzel. Bernhard’s is tucked away in a shopping complex & has a homely, local feel & of course has multiple varieties of schnity on offer & I’m sorry but they just are better than the pamie at your local pub & the beer is probably better than their’s too unless they also have Stiegl in which case it’s a draw. They also have the expected meats such as pork knuckle, pork belly, a variety of sausages, steaks etc & some vegetarian options including spatzle, savoury strudels, crumbed mushrooms & more. The salads & house made breads are also great, the deserts look really good but I’ve never been able to squeeze one in as the meals are large & filling.

It’s taken me forever to find a local restaurant like Bernhard’s Kitchen. From the second you walk in you feel the warm, cosy atmosphere surrounded by authentic European beer and wines. The food was well priced and servings were very generous. We had the pork knuckle and chicken schnitzel which was served with authentic German mustards; both meals were delicious and devoured in seconds! Defiantly recommend Bernhard’s Kitchen if your looking for an intimate setting with amazing food.

German and Austrian food has a reputation for being stodgy and heavy and boring. This is a lie. Bernhard’s kitchen servers authentic Austrian food(prepared by an authentic Austrian) and it is amazing. It’s not where you want to go for a light meal. It’s solid(but not stodgy) with huge servings and amazing flavors. I had the pork knuckle last time and the pork belly this time(can you see a theme here?) And both were awesome. Huge flavor. Washed down with German beer. I’m finishing off with a great dopplebock as I type. It is meaty heavy but there are vegetarian options. My wife had the mushroom goulash and it was really tasty. To give some indication of serving sizes, my teenage son was so full after his pork steak, that he couldn’t manage dessert. He barely managed to finish. Yes they are that big. Great for families when you want a good solid meal. Great service. Great food. Friendly atmosphere.

Bernhard’s Kitchen is a local favorite! The gigantic pork knuckles are renowned amongst family and friends, as well as the Austrian beer, and amongst my particular group, the mustards! Fantastic place for a family dinner, with generous portions and reasonable pricing. You are guaranteed to leave full, especially after stuffing in strudel and coffee on top! Check it out :) Definitely worthwhile
