I love me a man that takes pride in his work, that glows so brightly with it he shines, from his cloths to his posture to his neatly trimmed mustache. The man who enjoys what he’s doing so much that no task is below him, from greeting customers to wiping tables. I thought this kind of man was all but extinct, until I met him again at D’Bees in Double Bay. I’m still here, actually. I’m watching him as I write this. He’s a ball of energy, chatting and fetching and setting. See, Gen Y? This is customer service. This is how it’s done. A hot coffee and ricotta and honey toast were on my table almost as soon as I sat down, and then I was left in peace to tap away at my computer. No pestering, no badgering, just respect and smiles.

Sunny lazy summer mid day, relaxing on the patio in this upscale neighborhood, absent of tourist — Wonderful! Short walk from ferry landing. Light lunch included watermelon feta salad and tomato bruschetta.

This new Café is one of the most immaculate in DB with great well presented staff — food is appealing with great lunchtime offers — watch this place as people discover it

I remember the first time I went to Dee Bee’s — I was a Perth girl and pretty amazed that the coffee was so expensive and that it was packed at 9PM at night… my my, how things have changed. Dee Bee’s is okay… I wouldn’t say it was good nor would I say it was bad… I sincerely would put it in the middle… It’s not the kind of place you go to because that’s where you want to head for dinner… it’s more like the type of place you end up at because no where else is open after 9PM in Double Bay. There’s quite an extensive menu… for a late night snack I recommend the vegetarian nachos or their crepes… Good late night dinner… but there’s better to eat in the area prior to 9PM…

Unfortunately I have mixed view of Dee Bee’s as it’s a landmark in Double Bay, and I don’t quiet know why. It quietly survives amongst Double Bay’s(A.K.A Double Pay) chic boutiques and fancy eateries, and remaining popular with the suburb’s glitzy and glamorous citizens means they must be doing something right, although I can’t say that their coffee is the best, nor their food competitive in contrast to other eateries in the area. The space looks more like a shrine to the Hard Rock Café, than an established and contemporary chic place to meet the ritzy people of Double Bay. It’s furnished with basic plastic flowers, on the tables, plastic chairs, and a nauseous amount of sporting and entertainment memorabilia on the walls, old-fashioned beyond that offered by most coffee houses. They seem to be famous for their apple pie, pictured, and for a traditional Hungarian apple pie, it is pretty awesome, although that can’t be the only thing that attracts people to this haunt, even the celebrities seem to love it — Michael Parkinson, Suzy Quatro, Jimmy Barnes, Leo Sayer and Keanu Reeves have all been visitors
