Another food franchise that has low rating, I wonder why? Is it the service or the offering? It was enjoyable at first, especially their store in Melbourne Central. Great position, next to the Cinema but it’s never the ultimate destination for my nor others Chocolate craving nor Coffee.

A regular venue that always makes it’s way into our dessert schedules. Caught up with some friends over dinner at Doncaster and saw Max Brenner across the road. As we were all in the mood for some dessert this was the only logical choice. The diary milk hot chocolate with crunchy balls is currently my drink of choice as it’s winter and I often find myself very cold. However they do have an extensive menu which you can chose from. As usual the wait time after ordering is on the long side but we’ve become accustom to this. I recommend visiting with good friends as the time will fly by when you’re caught up catching up!

It’s pretty funny but every time I come here my drink of choice is the Madagascan Vanilla Tea(T2 Tea) — I find most of the chocolate drinks too milky and the coffee quite average. This way, I get to indulge in some chocolatey goodness without feeling too ill. I love dark chocolate and although Max’s Dark Chocolate is not that dark but actually a little bit sweet, for the occasional treat, it is niiiiiiiice. Want some excitement and feel like a kid? Get the one with popping candy in it. Want to feel like you’re being healthy? Get the strawberries on the side! I have tried some of their dessert. The Waffle — I literally was crunching the pieces of sugar as I bit into the waffle — scary. The Babka — This still seems to be my favourite, though I haven’t had it in a while and am not sure if it has changed. The Banana Bread — Looked a little stale but I was assured it was AMAZING. Amazing it was not. I got told it was going to come out warm, it was cold and stale. Sadface. I asked for it to be reheated and it still came back not that warm. Definitely not getting that again. Max, I still love you, but there are HEAPS of chocolate/cake places popping up all over the place that it is not quite my «IT» place anymore.

When I’m in the Doncaster area and in need of a chocolate overload, Max Brenner is my choice. In fact right from the moment you step in store, the sweet smell of cocoa takes over and as a friend of mine said, «I can get high just standing here.» Her words, not mine but I completely get what she means. If you’re in need of a chocolate fix, try the warm chocolate soufflé with oozing dark chocolate($ 10). Rich, sweet and so satisfying. If you’re more a liquid chocolate lover then you must have the hot chocolate. My favourite flavours are the spicy Mexican and the Mint chocolate($ 6 each). For a quick chocolate hit, try the cinnamon chocolate babka served with pure melted chocolate($ 6.50) or indulge your chocolate cravings slowly over fondue for two, which is served with strawberries, crunchy apple, marshmallows(of course) and banana bread($ 19).
