I’ve only been a few times. The last time was for a weekend lunch and needless to say, the place was totally packed which required a wait of about 20 minutes before I could get a table. Something I immediately noticed was a number of the wait staff who were visibly sick — lots of sniffling and snorting which was a bit off-putting. I wish the management would send their sick staff home. Everything’s fine once you get a table; the service isn’t exactly top notch, but it’s not too bad for a very busy restaurant. Food is every bit as good as any place in Melbourne and it looks like you get a wider selection than a lot of smaller restaurants. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Weekdays or get in before 11.30 The many times we’ve been here, never disappointed, the usual Yumcha fares. Adequate service and great view from the front side room of the Melbourne Star. This huge restaurant was packed by 12.30 …

Heard people say this is one of the most authentic Chinese dim sum place in Melbourne and it’s really popular and is always fully booked. We are lucky enough to booked it this morning for lunch . It’s located where the Melbourne star is located. Right at the 1st floor just right opposite the entrance of Melbourne star. The interior of the restaurant is a high class proper Chinese Restaurent. The workers will push trolleys if food containing small steaming trays where all the food is steamed in. Very nice Siew Mai, har kaw, chicken feet, beef balls, century egg poraide, the char Siew pao is awesome too. The chef is from Hong Kong thus the authenticity of the food. You can end with some desserts such as egg tart and tau fu fa. You just need to Rmb to make a reservation before you come to avoid disappointments.

Found this place on New Year day since no other places were opened. To my surprise, this is one of the best siu mai and har gau places in Melbourne. Generous portion with reasonable prices. Pretty good service and always busy during weekend lunch. Gold Leaf is now definitely our favourite dim sum place.

Christmas! It’s a pain in the butt to find anything that’s open. Thankfully many Asian restaurants are open and one of them is Gold Leaf in Docklands! I called on Xmas Eve and thankfully they let me book a table. We were seated quickly and ordered tea. I have been to Gold Leaf quite a few times and their beef tendon(or some call it marrow plugs) are highly recommended. Other things I would recommend is the xo sauce pan fried rice rolls, egg tarts, taro /turnip cake, beef balls and their steamed rice rolls. One thing I won’t recommend is the deep fried taro ball. It was too oily and not much ingredients were in it. The service was pretty good for Xmas, if you can’t see what you want from the cart you can order it with the waiters and it will come very quickly. The cashier is quite slow though so beware! If there is a choice I would certainly go to Gold Leaf Docklands than any other yum Cha places in the city or south bank in terms of the quality of food and value for money.

Top-notch yum cha that’s accessible by bike or public transport, takes bookings and is reasonably priced. What’s not to love?

Do not expect a good customer service in here as they’re really busy. The food is pretty great, however the customer service is absolutely horrifying. I came with few friends and ask for a table for the guy just said there isn’t table for another 2 hours, so I asked if they could put reservation for us but he refused and said we should try to come back. He also mentioned that they don’t call if you put reservation there. After telling this, he turned right away and served another person. So, if you want to eat here, be prepared for the bad service! :)

came here for a reunion. Booked for the first sitting. It’s busy as always. Service is still pretty good. The best is their durian egg tart and custard egg tart. Sorry no pics could not resist! The Har Cheong Fun(shrimp rice noodle rolls) were sub par in my view. Over steamed… making the noodle wrap waaay too soft. Pastry used on the dim sums were too thick. But still were pretty good. I normally love the chicken feet here but on this occasion it was a bit bland. Not enough black beans used. The tripe wasn’t cooked properly. bit too gamey for my liking. Overall it wasn’t bad, I’d still come back for the durian tarts!

Gold Leaf is chock full of local Chinese people! No better testament to good traditional quality yum cha cuisine! It’s very busy so be prepared to line up but service is quick and efficient. Recommended.

I am eating out quite often and I think my first visit to this restaurant today must have been an exception to earlier records from others. There was a strange sea-food smell in the restaurant and I got the impression that the restaurant was unclean while I was looking around waiting for my food. Food was average to my mind, the smell probably tainted the experience. I am sure this restaurant can do better however.

Every now and then you stumble across a restaurant that steals your heart. I walked in and found myself like a little kid lost in a toy shop… in the middle of the restaurant was a table with 12 different sauces — including an array of chillie sauces and fresh chillies. I am going gaga… forget about the food! This place gets both my thumbs up — as the last time I asked for chillies at another restaurant, they charged me $ 3 for it. Ok back at the food — freshly prepared, non– greasy food. I had the schichuan prawns and the fish in soy sauce. Every dish was graet… go try it!

Hidden up the back of Harbour Town, Gold Leaf is an extremely popular Chinese restaurant, with excellent Yum Cha. Its deck out is hilarious with massive chandeliers and gold plated everything, but the food is awesome and the wait staff are actually excellent. I recommend ANY of the soups they are brilliant! Date place: um no I wouldn’t say so, not until the Wheel starts turning again. Then, it will be a good place to go before you have a spin…

This is my current favourite option in Melbourne for yum cha. The restaurant is very nice — quite new and very spacious. They are very child-friendly and have booster seats and high chairs on request. The quality of the dum sum is very good — all your classic favourites are available e.g. har gau, cheung fan, chicken feet, siu mai, sotong, jellyfish, duck tongues etc. The restaurant is licenced as well. If you are looking for the best yum cha in Melbourne, give Gold Leaf at the Docklands a try.
