This quaint little joint has in the past few years changed some Unilocaling ownership. The new owners seem to pride themselves on friendly(sometimes over friendly) service coupled with food that literally comes out in a jiffy. Every table has a box of tissues, cutlery and other convenient condiments like your chilli paste, soy sauce, fish sauce and what have you. The steamed dim sims are a good fresh starter, generous in portions. We tried the salt and pepper calamari and phở noodles. They came out so quickly it was as if they were already prepared… at least they were hot. The Vietnamese deep fried spring rolls tasted like they were from a frozen pack. While the food is satisfactory, there is a difference between fresh and cooked frozen… not making any judgements here, but although the food is relatively cheap and easy on the palette, It’s not going to be my first choice by any means.

This small Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant is Darra’s buried treasure. Unfortunately, this place gets overlooked, however, I would suggest trying before judging. Many of the locals in Darra are of Vietnamese background and many dine here, which for me, cements the fact that food here is kept purely authentic and not modified to suit Western tastes. They are very generous with their servings, so it’s a great place to share meals with your friends and family or just take leftovers home to have for lunch the next day. I have tried many dishes on their menu, including seafood and all were fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the ‘Soft Shell Crab’, ‘Mud Crab’ and the ‘Rice Paper Rolls’. Bare in mind, you may experience a language barrier if you don’t speak Vietnamese, but this shouldn’t be a problem, it just makes the whole experience more authentic. They place itself is not very attractive and ambience is lacking– but it’s not the sort of place you expect it, so I didn’t mind. If no one had recommended I try it, then I wouldn’t have gone based on aesthetics. But if you are a real foodie wanting to try the closest thing to eating in Vietnam yourself, then this place should be added to your list.
