Located in an old converted laundromat, the Darlie Laundromatic is a unique space for all your preferred activities. We are a café/​small bar encouraging the community spirit in Darlinghurst offering delicious homemade food and beverages. Some of our specialties include mini hots dogs, burgers& kebabs as well as a large variety of share plates and delicious mains. Our beverages are focused around homemade organic cordials ranging from Pear & Maple to seasonal specials like Spiced Peach. The popular $ 5 can of Tsing Tao is always on offer as is a fine selection of boutique wines from Australia, NZ, France and Argentina. Fitted out to inspire the sensation of being in a mates house or your Gran’s kitchen with the friendly service to match. whatever your need (dietary, auditory, unquenchable thirst or emotional) the Laundrettes are here to help.

History

Established in 2011.

This converted laundromat was once the front for a weed selling monk who bred dogs out the back. Gone are the days of doobies and dogs but the taps and original signage pay hommage to it’s Palmer Street heritage.

The idea for the space was conceived by a collective with Painter/​Chef Charlotte Weight and Dancer/​General Manager Lauren Thorpe on board from conception. Instantly the two used their creative backgrounds to tap into their audience, to provide the highest quality food & drinks for a reasonable price in a city with ever increasing costs. The menu quickly evolved itself with everything from mini hot dogs to ploughman’s platters and the homemade cordials on the menu from day one. Everything else has evolved to share in the same philosophy of fresh & friendly for everyone (all dietary needs are accommodated). Fitted out to inspire the sensation of being in your living room the space has proven to be a neighborhood hang out for all.

This untypical laundrette will become one of my regular bar in my neighborhood.
As soon as I entered I knew that I will love this spot: hidden street entrance (look for the laundrette sign!), leather sofas, intimate lighting with candles and welcoming waiter.
On top of that, both food and beverage were awesome:
–Delicious cocktails: original but not pretentious — also amazingly cheap for the Darlo area ($ 13)
–Very tasty share plates as most of them are handmade: memorable capsicum dip and pork sliders
I will be back soon, dear laundrette ;)

Cool funky little bar, just off the main thoroughfare in Oxford St., but it feels like so much further away from that chaos & mayhem. Having had dinner earlier in Phamish (also well worth a trip), we stopped into this converted Laundromatte-​come-​bar for a cool beer… and it was great!
Lovely chilled out vibe & décor (all the original laundry signs are still there), soft lighting & a good indie mix on the sound system.
Drink wise, cocktails are there order of the day, and there is also a decent selection of wine plus a rotating craft beer choice. Service with a smile, and definitely somewhere to go if you want to be able to have the chats! More of these types please Sydney!

Cute little bar tucked out of the way– the drinks are standard but the real reason to come is for the rock and roll bingo on Wednesday nights!
Super fun to play with friends– if there aren’t a ton of people in the bar the host will let you choose what genre of music you’d like to play bingo with. It was a blast hearing fun songs and playing a game at the same time!

If only this place would wash my actual laundry while I enjoyed the cheap drinks, good looking bar staff and the fun neighbourhood atmosphere, I’d give it five out of five for sure!
Regardless, I really love this cute bar and would happily spend an hour or two here though perhaps not on a hot summer’s night when it can get super steamy and sweaty inside.

Adorable little bar with just the right amount of charm and funkiness expected for a small– I’ll just say it– ‘hipster’ bar.
I guess what this place has going for it on the drinks menu is the home made cordials served with vodka and soda… very tasty! There was cloudy apple, passion fruit, pear and maple and my favourite raspberry and ginger.
We were there for a function, so I think my experience would have been a little different had it been a normal night. I’m keen to go back and check it out again soon!

I can see why Darlie Laundromatic is becoming such a favorite Darlinghurst destination. This great little place tucked away on quiet little Palmer Street doesn’t look like much from the outside, and it really doesn’t look like much once you step inside But once you settle in, fire down a few mini burgers or dogs, and soak up the vibe, you’ll get it.
The gal working the bar was really sweet and took care of the modest midweek crowd efficiently but took the time to chat with people as they perused the menu. There were a few tables free in the darker back room, but I opted for a spot at the long table that fills the majority of the shop front, flanked by crazy album covers that have been modified with skulls and are available for sale.
Our hostess had proudly selected the music for the evening, a fantastic mix of old soul music, with Sam Cooke in heavy rotation, which really worked nicely amidst the old laundromat plumbing fixtures, dim lighting, and general coziness of the space. I had a couple drinks, a Laundry Dog to start followed by the steak sandwich. The sandwich was good, but in hindsight I should have stuck with a selection of mini dogs.
I wish I’d been able to stick around longer and see how the evening shaped up as the crowd started to liven up as dining turned into drinking, but it wasn’t in the cards for this night. It’ll definitely be on the agenda for next time!

Oh so cute. Darlie is totes lovable.
They have homemade cordial drinks that you can mix with vodka and whatnot (or Jack Daniels if you’re drinking with me). The cocktails are so lovely and inexpensive compared to some of the local Darlinghurst/​Surry Hills neighbours. I had the Apple Jack.
I didn’t have a chance to sample the menu, but it looked wicked. A reason to get back soon.

What absolutely lovely spot! Have a can of Tsing Tao its horribly middle of the road beer but it feels great to drink from the can.
Its fantastic they’ve retained a lot of the original fit out with taps and pipes evident everywhere.
Its great walking up to this place with friends as its quite unusual to approach what looks like a still functioning Laundry for a drink.
I’ve always found the staff really pleasant in this bar.
I’d highly recommend the cordials as well they are delicious and if I remember correctly I believe home made… That’s what happens when you drink Cordial with Vodka… you forget things :)

Who would have know that hiding in the skin of a Laundromat in Darlinghurst is a sneaky little café/​bar/​restaurant.
Darlie Laundromatic offers up a the insides of a dingy laundry to be the new face of a awesome little joint, which fits nicely in the area amongst up-​and-​coming bars such as Shady Pines, The Commons & Pocket.
The brightly coloured outdoor area, feels like a mexican inspired up market favela, with recycled furniture and old school blackboards.
The great thing about this little creature is that it also has some seriously adventurous and different food specialities on the menu. Their famous mini hotdogs are talk of the town, and are rated highly in comparison to the king of bar-​hot-​dogs in Stitch bar.
The lunch menu on the other hand has some great specials, try the amazingly tangy and tasty Laundry patty with caramelised onion jam, Harrissa aioli, pickles, mustard, cheese & rocket. It’s served with some crisp chips on the side, and although a bit on the spicy side, it’s delightful and still a light refreshing meal. Wash it down with one of their fresh home made organic cordials. The Pear & Apple was nice, but their special of Coconut, Pineapple, & Orange was like sipping on summer.
The staff were friendly, and very helpful in recommending some great things on the small but individual menu. Perfect for vegetarians & vegans, with a menu that highlights specific ingredients used.
Can’t wait to go back for a few more drinks!

Well isn’t this place just darling? (Who am I kidding, it was love at first sight.)
No need to be coy — by the time I’d taken three steps into the laundromat-​turned-​livingroom-​chic bar, I was already cooing, oohing and awing over the subtle comfy touches: Line-​hung laundry above the seating area. A knit sweater on the back of a chair. And the winning touch, a Maneki Neko near the cash register. (See here for «oh yeah» moment:

A friend of mine had a photography exhibition at Darlie Laundromatic, a place I’d heard little about. I thought it was a great opportunity to check out the bar as well as her awesome photographs.
The bar as the name suggests is an old laundromat in Darlinghurst that’s been converted into a bar. Its located just off Oxford St on Palmer St, which is right near the intersection with crown St. Look out for the small blue light box with the name of the bar and you won’t miss it. The first thing you’ll notice as you enter is that alot of the original pipes of the laundromat remain as well as some of the signage which look really good and give the place a quirky, welcoming feel while setting it apart from a lot of the other bars around the area (unless you drink while waiting for your clothes to dry at your laundromat, in which case it probably looks alot like your local). Most of the people inside I found were drinking Tsing Tao beer, $ 5 a pop which is great for an imported brand and is also the cheapest beer on the drinks list. The bar tenders there were also very nice which is a big welcome from alot of the attitude-​riden bar staff you encounter nowadays. My bevy of choice was the vodka-​soda pop-​cordial combination for $ 7.50. You can also get a non alcoholic organical cordial soda pop for $ 5.00, in a variety of flavours too. I got the tropical cordial vodka pop combo, which was definitely refreshing and a pleasant surprise from the usual vodka or vodka and orange mixes that are the norm. The back area is also a small restaurant that serves some interesting dishes, that is sure to have me going back again to try them.

Once a Laundromat, now a groovy small bar, Darlie Laundromatic is about to fill the void in my Tuesday nights now that Jurassic Lounge has gone to ground til Summer.
I got laundromatic on a Thursday night, which is the home of D & D’s Beat Kitchen. This night is put on by HaHa and even with this blurb, «an audible & edible gumbo of hand-​picked vinyl» there was nary a hipster to be seen. Just sexy, fun, grown-​up types. I love the vibe in this place– they’ve kept a lot of the original Laundromat fittings so there are pipes and taps running along the walls and some of the original signage. Adding to the ambience is a washing line with fresh clothes hanging off it and a gorgeous photo exhibition on the walls. A unique set-​up with a long share table– always a great way to meet people.
Also unique for a Sydney small bar, it’s affordable! Wine starts at $ 6 and mini-​dogs start at 4. The food is fabulous too, we had dips and olives and one of the dips was so amazing we spent a good half-​hour discussing the flavours. I also had dog sliders («Stray Dog») with a dill pickle instead of a sausage– awesome idea for the carnivorically challenged. Well done Laundromatic, can’t wait for rock’n’roll bingo on Tuesdays!
