Wanted a quiet, cosy restaurant with an excellent degustation menu. When I saw the restaurant full of locals(assumption on my part as most walked than drove) I was worried that it might be too noisy and crowded. I needn’t have. The food was delicious. The restaurant was alive, while quiet enough to have a conversation. Most of all the service was unmatched — it’s only in Japan have I experienced such a combination of professionalism and personal touch. Can’t wait to go back again.

Great neighbourhood Italian bistro with openness to the street. There are several tables nestled along the sliding concertina windows. Cosy inside, maybe 25 – 30 max seating. Food is a thoughtful combination of provincial Italian with some Sicilian influences. No spag bol. or pizzas. A lamb shoulder main on special. We started with a mushroom and home made salami and a duck liver pâté. I had a wonderful pork ragou with spinach pappardelle and fresh tomatoes as a main. My companion had a roasted spatchcock with fig salad. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. After our first choice was unavailable we drank a lovely Sicilian Nero D’Avola(no idea what varietal, perhaps a merlot blend) that was perfectly light with lots of red berries and soft tannins. At least 8 choices for dessert. We had a Gorgonzola cheese plate that the chef split because my guest had a hazelnut allergy. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. About A$ 180 for 2 entrees, mains, wine a shared cheese plate and tip. Only downside and perhaps an attraction is its location up a suburban street off New South Head road in Darling Point. Highly recommended for a great value Italian meal, without crowds or pretence.

Love this place — a true neighbourhood gem! Never disappoints! The Monday night special always introduces me to something I normally would not order — a great assortment! The gnocchi is some of the best I’ve had anywhere in the world!

Bei Amici is a true hidden gem of the Sydney restaurant scene. All here is about the food, atmosphere and service. If you’re looking for a restaurant with a cool location to be seen that’s not it. However being outside the main drags of kings cross /darlinghurst /city /double bay, they are able to deliver an outstanding dining experience for the money. The food is extremely creative and of very high quality for such an ‘underdog’ venue. The noise level is low enough so you can have a conversation. The wine list is great(with some great italian and local wines) and importantly includes affordable wines. One of my favourite place in Sydney!

Simply excellent cuisine. Quaint, pleasant, nice small friendly staff. Europen feel to it. Aromas: the warm bread they brought to the table, convinced me this is no ordinary place to eat, even a lunch-time special: red wine, mixed salad, warm bread with olive oil, and amazing pesto pasta. Do they prepare each dish as it’s ordered? Off the beaten path there on side street Mona Road, the place fills quickly. This could be a small restaurant in Milan.

As wandeering Californians, relying on Frommer’s «Sydney Free & Dirt Cheap», we were uncertain of what we would find on a rainy Monday, but tired and hungary for something more elegant and interesting than the other places we have yet encountered, we decided to give Bei Amici a try. The oranic and fresh, very afforable $ 33 three course Monday fixed prix meal was the draw. The extemely friendly and authentic staff fit us in on a fully booked night, and the reward was extremely memorable, for the freshness and inventive style, combined with vibrantly delicious morsels. An opening course, three really, consisted of fabuous light fish bites in a salad, a taste of elegant and yummy quail stratiatella soup and a perfect little bite of buffolo mozzzerella with other delicious favors blened in. The main course was gnoccchi, with a bit of veal that was lighter than gnocchi has a rigtht to be, topped off with a stunning piece of chocolate cate, balanced with a taste of little oranges. All in all, a great experience and worth the short and easy ride on the underground to find it. And the feel and visual appeal of the restaurant was perfect, open and very welcoming. Enjoy.

What do clouds taste like? Want to found out??? Well you can at Bei Amici, because their gnocchi is like eating a ball of white fluffiness… its the closest you can get to an airy food experience. Bei Amici isn’t positioned next to a huge array of restaurants and so you kind of need to know about it — to know about it. It’s a small restaurant and so I suggest you book before you go. The staff are really friendly and they take their food and wine seriously — so you know you’re in good hands… Everything is good — but I do recommend the gnocchi above anything else… I also suggest ordering an entrée — their Artichoke and Salt Cod purée is delicious… It’s pricey with Entrees costing around $ 15 and Mains costing around $ 35 –so save it for a special occasion. The food is excellent, the vibe wonderful and sometimes you can celebrity spot!
