Have been a regular here since they opened(2011?). With so many options for Thai food in Sydney, including several in Crows Nest, why do I keep coming back? The food is not just typical Thai. Sure, order the pad thai chicken if you want, and it will be awesome and beautifully presented under an egg net. The Meing Khumm is among the best I’ve tasted, curries and etc all fabulous. But they go way beyond that, with options like almond prawns(yes please!), sexy lamb(you really should put this on your bucket list), aubergine stack, grilled spiced pork. The décor is nice, darkish, Thai and interesting, with light fixtures that create a nice mood. Staff are attentive and helpful. They’re BYO. They’re also quite good value, particularly compared to other higher end Thai places nearby. Not a cheap Thai place, but for the quality the prices are very reasonable. I’ve eaten at other Thai places nearby, but always leave wishing I’d gone to Tall Lemongrass instead.

Dark. Like, moody dark. Interesting sculpture things hanging from the ceiling. I find myself wishing I was on a date, instead of hanging out with 2 dudes, both of whom have baby spit on their business shirts. One of them does a(completely contextual, non-racist but thoroughly clumsy) Asian impression as part of a story he’s telling just as a waitress walks by. This could be very awkward, but she just laughs and throws an imaginary slap at him. Incredibly well played, waitress. Food arrives. The lamb — not traditionally an Asian meat — is a surprise standout, big tender chunks in a sweet glaze. The spring rolls are crisp and steam pleasantly when broken open. Makes me feel like a big man cracking those bad boys in half so the steam arises, like I’ve just quenched a fire or something, possibly saving some lives in the process. Would I go here again? Certainly. Probably with different company though. A duet of baby goo on crisp white business shirts is sorta off-putting when you’re trying to eat.

There’s a poster out the front of Tall Grass Thai that states in big bold letters, «Lunch Special: $ 8.50» I head inside. I’m informed by my crew that TallGrass Thai serves the best coke in the country. Served in a tall frosted glass with crushed ice and a straw. I respectfully decline and stick to my water. The menu is vast and every option that includes chicken, vegetables or beef,(This includes wok tossed, curries and noodle dishes.) is only $ 8.50. The prawn and seafood options go for $ 9.50. The food arrives and we begin and I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I had the Chicken and Cashew which was scrum-didly-umptious. In a convenient location as it is right in the heart of Crows Nest and the restaurant itself is pleasant in ambience and the relaxed.
