I’m pretty sure my grandma would have taught me about the intarsia stitch. But alas, like the rest of my knitting dexterity, the knowledge has deserted me. Happily though, I’ve now found a new reason to remember Intarsia — thanks to this wonderful homewares store in Crows Nest. I was running early(for once) to meet a friend for coffee, so I was wandering around Crows Nest when this delightful window drew me in(and definitely not the adult shop right next door!). The casual, yet well-curated collection of jewellery, clothes and homewares kept me well entertained — not to mention going through my mental Christmas checklist to see if I coud tick anything off. Intarsia is indeed a good place to visit for gift ideas. The range goes from super cute, to funky, to downright gorgeous. In fact it was so nice to roam around that I ended up being late to meet my friend!

Intarsia is a home furnishings, jewellery and clothing store. It’s a good place to gift shop(especially if it’s for yourself). I particularly like the range of quality products they stock and have sourced from around the world. Lamps, novelty bird cages, gorgeous candle holders, picture frames, mirrors, scarves, cushions, Japanese dolls, cards, meditating statues and an eclectic mix of necklaces and beads. I did find the young shop assistant a little too nicey nice. I’m all in to friendly customer service but there’s a difference line between warm and approachable and being sickly sweet and false.

Intarsia, I have now discovered, is a term for a special stitch in knitting and probably not the coolest of associations to have with your shop, but I think that Intarsia manages to rises above this. Set on Willoughby road, this shop is full to the brim with tastefully and artistically chosen pieces of home decoration, jewellery and clothes. The ornaments are colour coded along the walls ranging from deep red cushions to little green tea-pots making it easy to install some imagination into your household AND colour co-ordinate. The jewellery and clothes are similarly colourful and well chosen, helping to create the sense that you are walking into the home of someone who has seen an enviably large amount of the world and is still somewhat in transit… I DIDN’T say hippy! This far too sophisticated a place for that! I managed to be robbed of the last of my coins by buying some cards from here, but they are very pretty! I’m sure their recipients will be impressed by my good taste!
