This is my go-to place for a quick lunch in the Nedlands area! A tiny pop-up at the bottom of the Broadway shopping centre, the two guys behind this idea are clever and onto a winner. The concept is simple — choose your pasta, choose your sauce, parmesan and/or chilli on top and then you are done. Plenty of pastas to choose from like Spelt Spaghetti, Spelt Lamb Ravioli, Pumpkin and Ricotta Ravioli, Zucchini noodles, Sweet Potato noodles, gnocchi… the options are delicious and there are Wheat-free and Gluten-free options. The sauces are delicious too — I love the Tommy’s Sugo or the Pesto. One of the owners was telling me recently that he is working with Curtin University to create spelt pastas, so that sounds like an awesome collaboration. Great coffee, iced coffees too and a few cool drinks. They do serve arancini balls if you are after a small snack and sometimes there almond croissants lurking on the counter(not for long)! Consistently good food and friendly staff. There are communal tables so you can eat there, or take it away. NB $ 12 minimum eftpos/credit card. Buon Appetito!

I don’t go to Broadway Fair much these days as I’m rarely in the area, but on this particular Sunday I was in need of a quick coffee to go, and didn’t like my chance of actually finding one. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Tommy Sugo has opened since my last visit, with a variety of coffees as well as other interesting sounding food options. It took me a little while to realise that you order at one window and then have to move around to a window on a different wall to collect orders. I ordered a fairly standard cappuccino, and it hit the spot nicely. I had regular milk, but they had a wide variety of options including almond milk and coco quench(a blend of coconut milk and rice milk).

I can’t comment on the pasta but I did share the pumpkin and feta croquettes. 3 for $ 5 is a nice price but unfortunately we found these croquettes really weird. I could barely see where the feta was and the consistancy was really odd. I didn’t even finish 1 croquette because it just wasn’t right. Even the pumpkin in the middle was creepy. The pasta may be good but give the croquettes a miss.

Tommy Sugo is a godsend for the nearby student population seeking a quick but quality feed. The small but efficient set up pumps out great pasta and decent coffee. Choose your pasta, choose your sauce and you’re set. My go-to is the ricotta and pesto ravioli with the hulk pesto sauce. Add some parmesan and a little hit of chili oil and a great lunch is made.

If you’re unwilling to fork out almost $ 30 for pasta at Chapter 88, Tommy Sugo is perfect for the penny pinching student budget. Reasonable prices and a filling takeaway portion — there’s no frills and there’s really nothing wrong with that. My gnocchi was a little tough, but the Italian Stallion sauce was amazing! Word is, the pesto also packs a punch and I’m really pleased that they make all their pasta in house. Tommy Sugo’s fit out is such a great use of space and I can see it becoming a hot favourite amongst the UWA crowd. I know that the coffee is from the same crowd as the Tenth State but I have to dock them a star for two mediocre flat whites. Still — I love the concept; coffee and hearty pasta… perfect, for winter is coming!

I must admit I haven’t seen a fast food style pasta option around the western suburbs in ages in terms of quick, easy, tasty, cheaper pasta that’s not at a restaurant. I’m not Italian, yet I still have an appreciation for fine italian tastes and food. This is not a top notch fine dining experience, this is a a well priced quick italian food option that’s a great lunch spot for me considering it’s closeness to the UWA. I can pop out during a study break and be eating a hearty ravioli meal all in 10 minutes. My first visit I tried the beef ravioli with saucy red napolitana. They service was friendly when I ordered my meal and I got chatting with the staff member about my excitement of their new shop due to my love of all things pasta and she mentioned was a family owned business with the grandfather making the pasta which he has done for some time, this pleased me more that it wasn’t overly commercialised. My pasta was tasty the sauce was really flavoursome and light on the ravioli which was cooked well, the dish did have a really little bit of water in the base left from the rapid pasta cooking water but it really did not affect the dish for me and didn’t overall make it watery. The Parmesan cheese was fresh and only 50c also. They do vegetarian options for pastas and sauces and hearty options like lamb spelt ravioli or chicken tortellini or just simply a spaghetti or linguini. Sauce such as sugo, italian stallion(Italian pork sausage), nap, bolognaise, carbonara etc. They do small aranchini balls/croquettes that are next on my list to try. I most certainly be returning at $ 9-$ 13.50 I feel this is a great price. charging up to $ 10 +for a sandwich at some places i think this is well priced for a good sized hearty pasta. I think this is going to be a winner for winter for me!

Great, good quality interesting pasta with a surprising amount of options for such a small shop. A great addition to Broadway shops. Same coffee as the tenth state down the road, similar vibe. Reasonable prices, between 8 and 13 for the pasta mains. Any less and I’d be suspicious.
