I am trying to be good and be on a health kick… so what am I doing in a yiros shop you say… glad you asked. You see it is easier to stay on a healthy path if you can eat something that is a little bit naughty now and then, and I would have to say that a Yiros can hit the spot nicely. These people specialise in Yiros and make a dazzling variety, but for me it is the plain ol’ chicken one with no sauce. The meat has been on the spit and most of the fat has drained away and you get a healthy serving of salad and some flat bread. What more would you want? They aren’t stingy with the fillings either, they are always packed full of meat, and I never feel hungry after having one. Compared to other yiros I have had, their meat is usually quite clean and not too greasy. The tricky part is to walk the gauntlet of the other treats available in the shop like specialty deserts and avoid ordering the chips and gulping something from the drink fridge, but mostly I manage to do it with no harm done to the diet. I did once try their falafel yiros after hearing that nona makes the falafels at home. They were crisp and tasty, and just moist enough so that they didn’t stick to the roof of my mouth like a Kardashian to bling at a Gucci sale. My only gripe is that the car park is tiny and shared with other food outlets, so sometimes getting a park can be tricky, but otherwise, I am a fan.

Not many places in the suburbs actually specialise in yiros’, but Andy’s has every flavour and combination of yiros you could imagine, and they are good! They also serve burgers, hotdogs, chips, salads etc. But the yiros’ are what you need to try, I’ve have Hawaiian ones, pizza ones, any meat or beg or even fruit you can pretty much get on a yiros here. They are relatively good priced, compared to how expensive yiros’ are anyway, and they do combos with chips and a drink. Located on a very main road coming out of the city, I’m sure they get lots of business, except for the McDonald’s pretty much next door which is always busy coming one from town at night.
