We build awesome handmade furniture.

Tables, cabinets, benches, smaller tables. All furniture really.

It’s great quality stuff and it can be customized. It’s made from native reclaimed timber and new timbers. It’s inspired by Scandinavian and mid-​century design.

And it’s all designed and made by us in our Coburg workshop.

Our specialty is working closely with customers to arrive at the perfect design in terms of style, functionality, and timber…

History

Established in 2014.

The inspiring story of our humble beginnings…

Well, we wanted to make use of our garage and scratch our creative itches.

Between us we’re a qualified (and excellent) furniture craftsman, an amateur (and still pretty excellent) craftsman and two savvy business people. Being the natural crafters and makers that we are, we looked at most timber furniture that was already out there and thought: we could do that.

We don’t have any prestigious design affiliations or sweet industry hook-​ups. We are just making tables and chairs and cabinets according to our own inclination, and according to whatever people ask us to make and to whatever feedback we get.

What we do have is a an eye for detail and an appreciation of good quality craftsmanship, which we’re pumping out in spades.

Everything is designed by us and our customers and made by hand in our Coburg workshop from recycled native timber and lovely imported timbers.

Meet the Business Owner

Jesse and Kyle.

Business Owner

Jesse (on the right) is the furniture guy. He’s responsible for all the amazing furniture our customers enjoy. Jesse is a fully qualified furniture maker, earning his apprenticeship at one of Melbourne’s best hi-​end furniture companies.

He has a passion for beautiful timber and Danish design, and he has a very good eye for detail.

Kyle is the marketing guy. He makes the business look nice to customers and gets the sales. Kyle studied business at Latrobe University. His passion is customer service; making sure that every customer or potential customer is 100% satisfied and walks away having had a pleasant experience with Smith + Thomas.
