Rite Price is known for its out of date or soon to expire food items so if you’re fastidious about expiry dates, then definitely check before you buy. As for the non edibles you can’t go wrong as it’s the cheapest place to buy party plates, storage containers, freezer containers, etc. When I was first introduced to Rite Price it was close to Halloween so I stocked up on trick or treat items — we give the items to the neighbours so we know what the kids were being given — but when the kids opened their goodies and started to eat and drink them, it didn’t go down very well. So what was a good idea didn’t end up being successful. I now rarely buy drinks or food items from here as I don’t like the taste of the drinks either — now that I know — it’s like they’ve been sitting out in the sun or more like a hot truck all day. And about the only edible items I do buy on occassions is pickled and tinned foods, as I can be sure they’re safe to eat and the other is balsamic vinegar in the spray bottle, great for salads. The stock does change from time to time so if you are not in a hurry it’s worth checking out, go in there with your shopping list and if no luck then go to the regular supermarket. So unless there’s a famine this is not my regular place to food shop. Kamini is right as it’s great for bathroom and laundry essentials and a few other items, if you dare.

No doubt SA’s cheapest grocers. You’ll find end of date, expired products or deleted lines here. It’s the best place to stock up on laundry and bathroom essentials, let’s not forget the rolls of cheap toilet paper you can get your hands on. There are plenty of snacks range here, perfect for school lunch boxes, picnics or a snack sneak in the movies(you didn’t hear it from me!), but do be weary as I found the mini chocolate buns a bit off and almost resembled that famed fungi sandwich that was going for thousand bucks on eBay! Still, there are some products worth looking at here. Make up, Coke, chocolates, Meggles eggs and dog food usually go on a very good offer. I guess it pays to be a smart shopper. I doubt I will buy something that has a 6 months expired date on it. Each to their own I guess.
