It’s great when you can venture out of the confines of your house, on a frost bitten day, and visit somewhere warm, inviting and full of deliciousness. The best bit? You can find all this inside the confines of Chadstone Shopping Centre. Pappa Rich’s is a brilliantly authentic, well priced and down to Earth Malaysian restaurant located in the newish Chadstone restaurant precinct. When myself and my husband visited on a Saturday afternoon we were quickly seated(though a line quickly followed us) among the throng of diners already indulging in the cheerful Malaysian fare. The ordering system is innovative, clever and faultless: browse through the yummy cuisine on offer, jot down your preferences on the provided order sheet, press the button to summon the swift and very efficient host and HEYPRESTO! your meal should arrive in ten minutes or less. I had the Roti Telur Bawang Curry Chicken with Fresh Lemon Honey Iced Tea. The fresh Roti, with egg and onion throughout, perfectly accompanied the brilliantly delicious chicken curry and divine spicy and sweet sauces. It was utterly delicious and, honestly, couldn’t be faulted. I thoroughly savoured every single morsel. Hubby had the Biryani Rice with Red Chicken and Prawns. This was likewise a delicious and thoroughly satisfying meal that was just the right level of spice, season and salivating sauciness. Both meals were very generously proportioned and very reasonable value. For around $ 17 a head we both left thoroughly satisfied and eager to return. Pappa Rich’s is a Malaysian wonderland and much welcomed oasis for all weary shoppers. For the price it offers delicious quality meals sure to delight the stomachs(and budgets) of all. Give it a go next time you’re visiting the shipping Mecca; I promise you won’t regret it.

This place is packed on a Sunday for brunch I had to wait in line for 30 minutes before being seated even though I had made reservations that’s the only bad thing I can say. As soon my family were seated the waiters took our orders & served us some refreshments straight away, after about 10 mins they started to bring out all sorts of dishes you could choose from *I will update the review once I have finished the meal

I know everyone seems to like this place but I’ve had two bad experiences here. One was when I took my mum who had the worst vegetarian dish that had almost no texture and was incredibly bland. The second time I had a prawn dish that tasted just awful. You know the prawns aren’t Aussie or fresh when they’ve been soaked in hydroxide and no amount of tasty sauce is gonna take that metallic flavour away! My dish was inedible but they refused to believe me and offered no explanation or customer service to address the complaint. Shame.

DIsclaimer: I have yellow fever, and therefore am slightly biased when it comes to Asian food. If you’re looking for a rocking spicy meal and can handle a little heat on your palate, Pappa Rich is your friend. Get a big group together and share dishes — we gorged on satay sticks, curries, roti and deep fried chicken skin which WASAMAZING and I wanted to marry the chef. It’s not the healthiest food though — can be a little oily. And I recommend you don’y go with any friends who are on a health kick or bodybuilding competition training. They won’t be able to eat anything and they’ll glare at your murderously as you gorge on noodles. True story. The desserts aren’t as awesome as Dessert Story next door, so recommend you have dinner here and then shimmy over to Dessert Story for #63 — snow ice with crushed peanuts, black sesame and condensed milk. Hello, curry coma and sugar high.

Toying bread is worth the wait! Don’t make the make of getting the bread with extras inside, like onion etc. it is best plain!

Coconut rice and the roti! My lady and I were starving on our way back from the taste of Melbourne and always hear about the lineups around this restaurant, so we headed to Chadstone to find bustling venue. We were seated promptly and given nice big menus with large pictures. We ordered the Chicken Curry Laksa(a spicy coconut curry with veggies and chicken), Roti Canai with Curry Chicken, with extra roti, and coconut infused rice called Nasi Lemak. Everything tasted amazing and was consumed in about 10 – 15 minutes. My partner had to slow me down to prevent inhaling it in record time. And everything is fairly cheap for the flavour and portions you receive. There are also lots of vegetarian and juice options as well. The only downside was the ordering system. Fill out a piece of paper with the items you wish to order, and then ring a little electronic buzzer to notify your waiter. You bill is then processed and handed to you with the meal. With such a bustling restaurant, you hear the bells/buzzers going off every 5 seconds, which got on my nerves, especially when I’m sitting at the table with an empty stomach. Overall, it’s a small grievance. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED! GOFORIT!
