You may remember him as the Melbourne man responsible for extended trading hours in Victoria. Before him, shops were strangely closed on Sunday. Well the reason for his persistent lobbying was his local hardware store that he wished to keep open on Sundays in order to contend with his competitors. His local store is still open, and these days it’s a lot bigger. It will never be as vast as Bunnings but what it lacks in size it makes up for in that attention to detail and service that you can only ever get at a local business. I’ll always hold this place near and dear for nostalgic reasons — they used to have this amazing model town set up at the front of the store with a river running through it. Although those days are long gone, the character of the place still remains. I recommend the store for anyone looking for sound and experienced advice on all DIY matters. The product is often more expensive than what you’ll find at a superstore but if you don’t know how to use it what’s the point in getting it cheap?
