This middle eastern eatery can be found opposite Melbourne university. If you find yourself stuck at the terminal — as only two of the ten trams that come here actually keep going — this is the best within metres. The smells aren’t noticeable until you enter — all falafel and other middle eastern goodness. You rarely have to wait long to get a table or even be served, so your quick meal can be so fast it may not feel like it even happened as you dash back to catch your tram. For those after take away or a quick coffee look no further.

Are you a university student? Are you looking for something cheap, healthy, and delicious? If so, definitely try Sinbads, which is located from the University of Melbourne tram stop. Serving what can only be described as generic Middle Eastern cuisine(falafel, kebab, hummus, you get the idea), Sinbads offers great value. For around $ 6-$ 7, you get a decent size kebab. I like their chicken kebab because the chicken is cooked so nicely — succulent and juicy. It’s also quite healthy with lots of salad and pickled ingredients. It doesn’t feel like or taste like one of those kebab shops you would go to at 2am after a big night out. The guys who work here are super friendly. I usually have a chat with them whilst I’m waiting and they seem to know when I haven’t been around for a while. I did say goodbye when I was done at the University of Melbourne — I didn’t want them to be too concerned when they don’t see me around.

Located just across the road from the Uni tram stop, Sinbads should be added to every student’s list of places to go for a cheap eat at lunchtime or in between lectures/tutes. On the face of it, it is pretty innocuous and is not really that much to look at. But when you go inside and experience it, you’ll soon see it as a special place. The staff are some of the friendliest people you’d like to meet. The kebabs look remarkably healthy and taste great. But that’s not all they have to offer. There are a number of vegetarian options with a fantastic falafel. You can also go for a hot plate with a huge range of options to choose from. A meal here will only set you back 6 or 7 bucks and they also have a loyalty system so if you eat there 9 or 10 times you get your next meal for free. Don’t judge a book by its cover. You’ll love Sinbads and their great staff who are a lot of fun at lunchtimes. I went there pretty frequently for two years straight and can’t recommend it enough.
