Sad to say my experience after my initial review was very poor. I won’t bore you with the long litany of mistakes made by management of the baths, suffice to say when I could no longer take yet another cockup with my membership, I immediately fill out a cancellation form and handed back with our passes. Here we are months later, told we had to fill in two separate forms and they won’t backpay the amounts they kept direct debiting even though it put my account into arrears and i was assured all paperwork was done. FYI I never received any request for why we cancelled two memberships, not exactly sign of business that cares about keeping customers. So even when you leave due to mismanagement, their mistakes keep impacting on you. I left to get rid of this constant annoyance and here it is in 2014 and it is still there! Pay for the pool in cash but don’t bother with a membership. It ain’t worth it.

Here’s a useless fact: Carlton Baths is where my maternal grandparents met for the very first time and fell in love. It was an old-fashioned chlorine scented romance… That was back in the 1940’s, and the swimming pool has now expanded to a YMCA gym with a few not-so-modcons for keeping fit. I don’t use the machines, but I do attend the yoga classes occasionally. It tends to be an over fifty crowd at yoga, which suits me as I’m instantly in the more flexible half of the class despite being terribly lazy. The Baths offer other popular classes like Zumba and Pump, but I’m too uncoordinated to attempt these. There are also a few low impact classes especially for elderly people — a more gentle version of yoga and good ol’ water aerobics. I can’t wait till I’m retired so I can get a floral swimming cap and hit the water aerobics circuit. The building is currently undergoing refurbishments so there are disruptions and relocations for some classes — check the website for updates.
