Eating at Sapporo was an experience itself, you can barely tell that is a restaurant from the outside, the building looked ‘a bit’ run down and we wasn’t sure if was open at all. We were greeted by a very friendly elderly Japanese women and realised that the kitchen and tables of the restaurant was in her house! The interior definitely feels like you are at your relies or asian friends grandparents place for dinner. I am know to like old tacky exotic dodgy places so It didn’t bother me at all. Entrée was surprisingly good! Agedashi tofu with ginger and spring onion in a light broth was unbelievable! Gyoza dumplings were also very good. The Bento box was amazing! It came with teriyaki chicken, salmon sashimi and tempura that was insanely delicious! rice, seaweed salad, a kind of Japanese croquette. To share with my daughter I ordered the miso ramen noodle soup and wasn’t to bad, noodles were cooked beautifully and miso broth had a nice stock and sesame seeds added to it. My only issue was the service; after a few customers came the poor elderly lady wasn’t coping with taking orders, cooking and serving tables all by herself. She must be a ninja! I wonder if she usually has anyone else helping her. Our dishes took a while to come but it was all worth it! Its our local Japanese close to our house so we will be dropping by quite often I reckon :0)

This is the real deal home cooked stuff, don’t expect anything fancy just honest staple japanese food. The sashimi was surprisingly tasty and fresh unlike most similar low turn over restaurants. The gyoza ramen was delicious and came with loads of ingredients, very nice seemingly homemade gyoza dumplings, a small chunk of pork, a piece of chicken, a fish ball etc. My friend had chicken katsu don and said it was great. Good portions all around. The food can be on the slow side even if you’re the only one there, but that’s only because the older lady taking your order is usually the person cookjng it all too, it’s part of the atmosphere of the place! Cool vibe.
